technically they are not really very good for cats, but your options are quite limited for flea control...it has to be done...or your cat and your home will be crawling alive with them....i use frontline....again its the best of what there is but its still a strong chemical being saturated into my pets system...but with out it we'd be infested.

Yes. They can and do cause reactions - at a minimum, this might just be hair loss around the area. But the best part is - flea collars don't work!! They endanger your pet and they don't even do their job! Incredible, isn't it.

If you have a cat with fleas, get some proper treatment from a vet, like Frontline, which is both safe and effective.

I don't like collars for cats full stop, I've seen too many hideous injuries from cats who've been caught in them.

Flea collars contain toxins which some cats are allergic to. Also they only kill the fleas that touch the collar. If you have a flea problem, use Frontline or Advantage (from your vet) and if you must use a collar, make sure it has a quick release clip (not an elastic insert).

Flea collars can make your pet sick. What we've always done is open the flea collar and let it hang outside for two or three days before putting it on our dog or cat. That way the chemical from the collar weakens.

After having several cats that have reacted badly to flea collars I no longer use them! I find the 'Frontline' drops and a good household flea spray from the Vets work better and I don't have to worry about the cat getting caught on something or losing their fur.

I dont think they are bad for cats
I do think there are better methods though as a flea collar wont kill the larvae
Frontline is very good it kills theadults and the eggs on the host so no need for a flea collar

Generally you don't want to put a collar on a cat cause they like to squeeze in, under and through tight spots and it is possible for them to get stuck, hung up or choke. They make cat flea collars that have cuts in them so that if a lot of force is put on them they will break.

I actually just took my cats to the vet to get shots and deflead and asked about flea collars. They said they don't condone them or sell them cause they are proven to give cats siezures.
To me this doesn't sound to healthy!

But there is flea drops that I get from our vet that work awesome. It is called Frontline. This gets not only the fleas but kills all the eggs as well.

Yes, they're rather pointless too. They do not protect the body from fleas, just the neck area that they cover....because of that, the high amounts of chemicals, directed at the neck, can usually cause a bad reaction.

I'd suggest purchasing Frontline or Advantage once a month instead. It protects the entire body.
