"none of the above"
If this selection gets the highest number of votes, a new election is held and none of the current candidates are eligible.
I LOVE the idea and I love the message it would sent to the Wasington elite...
In my state, we have the option to write-in a candidate, which I have done on numerous occasions. It is not an option on electronic voting machines, though.

I think a "None of the above" on the ballot would be a good thing because then people who are disenchanted with the options could have a voice. That may actually get the powers that be in the party to do a better job of serving the people, especially if, for example, in 2008 Hillary wins the Presidency and a large portion of Republicans, rather than voting for a Republican nominee that they didn't want as President, voted "None". Then maybe in 2012 the party would look to nominate a candidate that would actually serve the interests of the people, rather than another special interest/corporate candidate.

Disagree BD Mac....if you don't vote you still have every right to ***** !....why ?...well for one it's a free country., and two - like this poster is saying...what if you don't like any of the candidates !.
I think this is a great idea. I shouldn't have to vote for the lesser of the two evils, and I think it would be great if people were given the option to tell BOTH candidates that they do not deserve the vote !..if that is how they feel. Not voting isn't the same thing, because the numbers won't tell you if the person never intended to vote anyway. In the meantime, as an alternative, you can fill out a provisional ballot and write-in Mickey Mouse....who actually has recieved votes in almost every election in modern history.

It is an option... Its called spoiling your ballot; you register to vote but opt not to select any of the choices as a protest... Its the same effect though as not showing up, except you can say you wasted an hour of your time to show up and informed the government that you have no confidence in any of them and actually care enough to spend your time letting them know that...

Yes. "None of the Above" should be an option for every election. If 51% vote that way, then the office is elliminated, as no acceptible canidate could be found.
Good question!
I voted for Pat Paulson for this reason.

That's an interesting choice, but when we vote we aren't voting for 1 elected office. We are voting for numerous offices from the city, county, state and national levels of government. Certainly there would have to be at least 1 candidate out of all those offices that you would like. To me I think the voter who says they don't like any of the candidates is lazy, doesn't want to research the candidates and isn't paying attention.

I've always loved this idea.
Our political process has become a game controlled by the ptb's (powers that be) to the extent that none of their candidates are acceptable.
If it weren't for Ron Paul, absolutely NONE of the candidates running for president in the 08 election would obey the law they take an oath to uphold and defend.

It would send a message to our leaders, but the problem is, our leaders really don't care. If they did, we wouldn't have had the voting fiascoes for the past 2 presidential elections.
I would love to have another viable option.

Why not write in a better candidate's name and vote for him/her? I did last election and came away having voted and with a clear conscience.

Interesting idea, but then we run the risk of electing "PTBNL" (Person to be named later) into an office?
If you are not happy with the candidates who are running, go out and find a canidate that you CAN support. Be the change you wish to see.
