Because they are the United States only true ally in the Middle East. Its a postage size piece of sand with no military value nor rich in oil reserves in the entire Middle East. The Arabs absolutely hate the idea of Judaism so naturally they want them out. Israel is just as much the Jews as the Palestinians. The Arab nations did unite to fight the Jews but alas the Israelis kicked them in the butt. Israel is a scape goat for Arab nations that have internal problems like poverty, racial strife, etc. Its easy to unite an Arab nation with religion and blaming Israel for everything due to the Palestinians plight.

Israel is a strong willed "no tolerance" nation: Meet force with force. Fight back hard and think about what we done later, when we cool down.
To complicate matters: Israel is a NUCLEAR POWER--they have very workable warhead missiles.
Right out from under OUR noses, Israel was clever to steal our military nuclear warhead secrets and build missiles on their own. Their spies, a married couple, were caught, tried, found guilty---and swiftly hanged for their treason against the USA.
Given their short temperment, the US has to go in and work to calm Israel's tensions, hoping they don't press their "the Button".
