Is it me or does it seem that giving a girl a stripper's name is fashionable these days. Have you seen some the the combos that people come up with? What happened to good strong names? Anyone else agree with me?

You said it! If I see another baby named Summer Rayne, Autumn Breeze, Lacie Skyye or Lexi Luv I might burst! LOL

I think some parents don't bother to put much thought into a name beyond "does it sound cute?" Which is unfortunate, since ...

1) Cute only works until about preschool, and (hopefully) these children WILL grow to adulthood.

2) By definition, the stage names most often used by adult entertainers ARE cute ... in a sexy, I'm-a-little-girl and "you know you want me" sort of way. LOL You know, random words, usually misspelled and often referring to something in nature or something thought to be sexy (Lace, Satin, Velvet, etc.).

In a word, ICK! Why not give your child an actual name with a real history and leave the cute factor for the nickname?

I don't know, I love the name Ginger and most people would consider that a stripper name. I think the name can be whatever you want it to be, it depends on the person! I've known some pretty innocent and polite Kaylynn's, but the first I ever knew was an uberslut, so I consider that a stripper name. But if I had known someone different first, I wouldn't feel that way at all.

Right there with you, Melissa G.

My younger (Ivy League educated, corporate exec) sister has a stripper name. Our dear dad was looking to invent a female version of a male family name and landed on "Teri" - which, in the 1970s, somehow seemed like a reasonable choice to an otherwise sensible man.

I think people name their *baby* and forget that someday that cute moniker might need to appear on a business card, a diplomatic passport or an academic C.V.

Either that, or they're so wholesome that they really have no idea that their name will encourage baby shower attendees to gift their little girl with the Fisher Price My First Pole.

people trying to be unique or cute but they are not ,so their kids suffer for it!!!that and it seems people purposely misspell everything and add a bunch of Y's where they do not belong and give boys names to girls and girls names to boys!!!! no wonder the kids are so confused!!!!good luck.

I agree, and I think boys' names are getting just as bad. I swear parents just don't *think* anymore.
