The treatment for fire ants is as follows:

Gently wash the area with soap and water to rid the skin of any venom on it. Do not break the blisters.
Disinfect the area with alcohol.
Place a cool compress or ice to relieve the swelling and pain.
Commercial products such as StingEze, calamine lotion, etc., will numb the area for a while.
Or for a home remedy for fire ant bites, quickly apply a thick paste of baking soda and water, or bleach and water, or meat tenderizer and water. These can reduce the pain and itching. You can carry a small spray bottle of one of these mixtures with you to use immediately if you know you will be in an infested area that is not close to the house.
Spraying a topical (cortisone) or taking a systemic (oral) antihistamine (like Benadryl) will help prevent allergic reactions and swelling. I also find Caladryl works well for many people.
Avoid scratching the pustule, which can lead to infection.
Persons allergic to insect stings should seek medical attention immediately to avoid and serious injury.

I put a benedryl spray on it after I cleanse it with soap and water. I also take benedryl which will make me sleepy and when I am sleeping, I don't want to scratch. When it gets too bad, I go see a doctor because I am allergic to the bites and the venom will spread all around the bitten area if I don't have them treated by a doctor.

When my mom used to treat our bites, she just poured rubbing alcohol on the bites and turned the fan on to dry it. It was cool and soothing. If we really itched, she would dab a little calamine lotion on the bites. That was in the days before they made the clear calamine lotion. We had polka dots for days, lol.

When I was five, I saw a pile of ants on the front sidewalk and went and got a sleeve of crackers to feed them. Imagine my surprise when those little red suckers bit me. I never fed them again. I remember my dad laughing at me when he got home and I told him the story. He told me to stick to feeding the birds.
