I suppose this is mainly for the girls cos I know guys aren't petty like us girls.

I'm sure you all have a celeb that your madly in love with! For me it's Gary Barlow. I think he's absoloutly amazing and gorgeous, my mates say I'm obsessed.

What I want help on is my friends always look at a pic of him and say 'how can you seriously think he is good-looking?' and all sorts of questions like that, basically claiming he is ugly.
Do your friends ever say this to you about whoever your madly in love with?

It really hurts me when they say it! It's just something inside me that gets really angry and makes me want to shout their head off.

Why don't they understand that everyone has different opinions?? I also don't get how they think Gary Barlow is not good looking but that's obviously their opinion.
So what can I say to my friends when they say this to me because it really hurts me and I know it shouldn't but it does.

(By the way I don't want any negative comments about Gary)

Just want to say Gary Barlow is the lead singer of Take That.
I know some of you still won't know who he is though.

I think you have to be secure enough to not care what other people think. For example, my wife thinks Paul Walker is so flippin' hot, but I don't. I think he's funny looking. There are guys we agree on, but some we don't. That's just life. But you can't let it bother you, because you'll never change their mind, and hopefully they won't change your mind. Just ignore it. If you can't handle it, then stop talking about Gary, or showing off pictures of it, because they're probably going to keep mouthing off.

Well I didn't know who he was but I seen a picture and he is ok looking. But that is not the point when I first started dating my fiancee my friends were the same way and all I told them was whatever and in a sarcastic voice "sorry I'm not the exact same as you and have the same boring taste in guys" and let it go

BTW whatever age you are let it go who cares what they think don't let stupid stuff get to you. You are over reacting when the guy you like doesn't really even know you.
2nd if they are your real friends then I doubt that they would say something to make fun of you.

Is this a question or a comment?

I think there's a blogging section on Answers.

By the way, I know what you are saying, though I don't feel like shouting ym head off. I'm a huge fan of, and have a crush on, Hayden Panettiere. You know that babe from Heroes. Sigh...

I have absolutely no clue who this Gary Barlow is, but sounds like you need a reality check. That you get so hurt over what your friends say about someone you never konw personally, that you can't understand why they don't feel the same way, suggests that you may not be totally living in the real world.

You're right, I have no idea who Gary Barlow is. But common sense should tell you that if every time you mention him to your friends you get disparaging comments, why not keep your crush to yourself.

I duno who Gary is, but I can say I agree with you, and I am 39 years old!! I feel the same about a guy named Leonardo DiCaprio. maybe you've heard of him?? you know, that boat movie where the ship sank??Anyhow, I sympathize with you when people say he is ugly and I think he is the hottest thing since grilled cheese! I grew up in the 80's and I sincerely was in love with a guy named Ralph Macchio. ( think Karate kid and The Outsiders) and hated it when people made fun of him, too. tell your freinds that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and that one day, they, too may experience true love.

Just tell your friends what you've just stated here....that everyone has different tastes and it really bothers you that they haven't got enough respect for you to not say rude things about someone you like. If they are truly your friends and they care about how you feel, they will stop. If they continue even after they know how much it bothers you they are not your friends and you should consider tossing them to the curb.

I know how you feel. I think Angelina Jolie is just the perfect combination of mesmerizing personality and painful good looks. I've had girls tell me that she is ugly, her lips are swollen, and she looks weird. GRRRRRR but you know what? If you asked them to name people they think are gorgeous, you would find at least one of them unappealing. When they're judging you, just laugh about their bad taste to yourself.

Well views vary from person to person, what one might find attractive others might not....though it really should not matter what they all say if you find the person attractive and wonderful then just go with that..don't worry what others think or say...just be happy digging who you dig and not trying to defend to others why, you know why that's what matters....
