I know what you mean! There was one question I asked; got about 4 answers and all were good. Went back the next day to check out more answers, and everyone had been given a thumbs down! It made me cross so I put a P.S. message about it under "additional details" telling whoever was doing it, to back off.
"It's MY question," I said, "So I'll do the rating, thank you!"
The point is, these thumbs down were given by someone who obviously had no interest in my question nor the answers - just a random visitor.
Sometimes an answerer will read through previous answers and give them a low rating because they think the answers were wrong. I somewhat disagree with this too. Maybe in factual questions, yes. But so many questions here ask for opinions ... you can't give another person a low rating simply because you think differently.
I think the right to give a "Thumbs Up" should not be changed, but there ought to be some way to control a "Thumbs Down".
Why not do away with it altogether?
I know sometimes there are answers which are very rude, sarcastic or just stupid. In those cases, there should be another way to control them - maybe a way to delete them and cost the poster the 2 points. That would make people think twice about being offensive. And I think that privilege should belong only to the asker ... except then they might get abused!
So, o.k. What about limiting a thumbs down to the asker until or if the question goes to the vote. Then the community can join in?
It's a difficult weakness on the site.
I remember the first time I ever got a thumbs down; it really hurt. Now it's so commonplace, I ignore it.
But when I ask a question, I feel more passionate about it. I hate it when someone has visited and given all my answerers a low rating! Especially since often the person who answered believes the asker gave them that thumbs down, for a perfectly good answer!
Sorry, it still makes me fume! Grrr!
I can't believe it is kids! How can they get to Level 2 so quickly?
I have this strange feeling that just as some people here think they get points for a star, they will get points for rating.

I was wondering what was going on. I've seen questions where every answer got a thumbs down, and not a single thumbs up. Like they just go in to give a thumbs down and leave without reading the answers.

dont tell me you,ve been trolling round the answers, whats the point?people are entitled to disagree with answers, thats what the thumbs downs and up are there for,are you saying they should,nt be used?Yahoo put them in for a good reason.Stupid, duff,or,abusive answers are now getting slated, and can you blame them ,i can,t.
