I assume you are talking about gangs and turf wars. That is for power and criminal opportunity, e.g. the crips and bloods. That still does not absolve racism nor the horrors religion has produced.

Race, religion or science are just excuses for strong to kill the weak. ie. natural selection.
its inbred into all humans. eliminate race, religion, money, and science and people will still kill each other over shiny rocks. ie. cro-magnon

I blame parents who only spend 3 hours a day with their kids and spend the rest trying to get money to buy shiny things they don't need.
