Most likely the internal fans are allowing the chip to overheat. The system will shut down at that point.

You didn't disclose what make or model, so it's hard to say if it's a "known issue".

For instance, Macbooks were having this issue for a while and it was fixed w/ a firmware update (lowered temperature threshold of the machine).

Assuming it is not a Macbook, then your CPU fan might be dead and needs to be replaced.

Take it to a certified technician who can diagnose and repair it for you. Your problem will not go away if it is indeed overheating.
