The apartment complex administrative told me that I was not responsible because I paid my half of the rent. Now they are putting it on my credit report. Can they do that??

Yep. When you sign a lease, even if you have a roommate, you are responsible for the entire amount.

You can write a letter to the credit bureaus and the rental management company advising that you are disputing the report and explaining why, but this may not get you anywhere.

Yes. As co-tenants on a lease you are jointly and severally liable for the entire amount of the rent. If anything is left unpaid it will go on both of your credit records, regardless of who paid what. The rental agent was mistaken when they told you otherwise.

Yes. You co-signed with this other person. It is your responsibility to take them to court and get the money.
