I am very sympathetic towards REALrape victims. It is a horrible crime & demands swift and equal justice no matter what a person's race. I can't help but be mystified, however, at the Duke Lacrosse rape case. In Durham's efforts to not look in ANY way racist, they rushed forward to prosecute these white boys. They didn't want to appear not to believe this black girl even after irrefutible DNA evidence cleared the lacrosse players. Then, it was the prosecutor, the city government, the state who ALL took a hit legally & in the media. That prosecutor certainly made horrible mistakes but this one case will ruin his entire life. Those boys, although exonerated, will have the word "rape" attached to them for the rest of their lives. Their families drug through the mud. And for what? Why is NO ONE, not the media, and suprisingly, not even the boys...focusing on prosecuting the GIRL who obviously lied?! Can we as a society afford to just allow anyone to yell rape & ruin someone's life lying?

Black or white don't matter. Rape is a serious crime. Rapist get long term of jail time, and they deserve it. But accusing somebody or rape which did not happen is a crime too, because you ruin that persons life with his family. What if he doesn't have the money to get good lawyers and defend his innocence? He is going to suffer in jail with no chances of coming out of jail alive.
They should make a law that if you have accused someone of rape but it proves that it was a complete lie for monetary gain, fame, or anything the accuser should be jailed for 5 to 7 years. That law will make it fair for both, the victim or the REAL victim.

The women who falsely accused the players of rape is basically at the bottom rungs of society to begin with - she's out doing bachelor parties et all, to support her lifestlye and her probably addictive drug habits. Her life's a mess. How much more justice is gonna be done prosecuting her. The Duke players smartly went after the district attorneys office - where the blame should lay, and where the money is.

I was thinking the same thing myself. You never hear a thing about this woman now. Why was she not arrested for falsely reporting a crime? And, I'm not positive but I think I remember hearing that she falsely accused another man/other men before. If that is true, it is all the more reason for her to pay for lieing like she did.
I can understand why they are going after who they are going after. That case was handled so poorly, I can't help but feel that even though this woman created the situation, those prosecuting and such actually turned it into the life ruining situation that it was. If they handled it differently, it would not have gotten nearly as bad as it did.
I feel so badly for those men that were falsely accused. That is a horribly troubled woman, nad I hope she can get some help and get better before she attempts to ruin someone else's life.

I am going through something like this myself. My husband went and cheated on me. However, the girl told him that she was almost 19 when in fact she was almost 17. She then 2 days later goes to the police and tells then that my husband grabs her from her car in a Wal-Mart parking lot and take her to his car and then rapes her. We do not have any money so I am very afraid that he will be in jail for a long time. He has 2 little boys that will grow up with out him. My husband has lied to me in the past but I strongely believe him right now. I just pray that his court appointed lawyer with met with him and do his job and prove this girl wrong. I hate that girls will lie about their age and then call rape because they don't want to tell their boyfriends they just cheated on them. I am sick and tired of this. I am going to see if I can met with the lawyer and go over things my husband has told me. Because if he goes after the leds we have then yes, my husband will serve some time but not much hopefully. I just wish we had the money for a good lawyer.

Women who are found LYING to police about being a rape victim SHOULD be jailed . Society needs to be shown this--and what better way to show this lesson than for the exonerated Duke Lacrosse players to demand the "cry rape victim" be tossed in court and sent to prison for her LIE.

What's hidden in darkness shall come to light, and in this case it did! Evil will destroy itself! To me one of the worst things a person can do is lie about someone else's integrity /character causing irreparable damage! Just think of life this way; God has everything on video/recording for judgement day(as a figure of speach) so as we sew; so shall we reap! Hopefully the lack of laws of falsely accusing others will be taken more seriously and demand a strict change. Even simple gossip by just one vindictive bully can cause others to stay away from the person they have gossiped about, and unless people refuse to believe things said about others they have been told; things will never change! In fact it's so easy for someone to make something sound so believable that I rarely believe anything anyone says. People seem to get a power high when they control others by constantly lying!

Should she be charged yes, will she be charged no. She was looking at the $ to be gained.
Bronzediva--come on quit dropping the race card, we all know 300 years ago the "white race" opressed everyone else, this has been drilled into our heads for years but the funny thing about that is none of us were alive then to take responsiblity for it ,so that is a mute issue and has nothing to do with this question.

Depends, are you interested in women of all races being prosecuted for falsely accusing a man or men of rape? If that is true, we have about 3 hundred years of white women falsely accusing black men of rape. I think you should get things into prospective and let those people take care of their own business. Besides, those boys will place their law suit where the money is, with the justice system.
