I am very sympathetic towards REALrape victims. It is a horrible crime & demands swift and equal justice no matter what a person's race. I can't help but be mystified, however, at the Duke Lacrosse rape case. In Durham's efforts to not look in ANY way racist, they rushed forward to prosecute these white boys. They didn't want to appear not to believe this black girl even after irrefutible DNA evidence cleared the lacrosse players. Then, it was the prosecutor, the city government, the state who ALL took a hit legally & in the media. That prosecutor certainly made horrible mistakes but this one case will ruin his entire life. Those boys, although exonerated, will have the word "rape" attached to them for the rest of their lives. Their families drug through the mud. And for what? Why is NO ONE, not the media, and suprisingly, not even the boys...focusing on prosecuting the GIRL who obviously LIED?! Can we as a society afford to allow anyone to yell rape & get away with it?

I agree that technically, there is no money to be gained by going after this woman. But with as much media attention it gained, I feel SOMETHING should be done to send a signal to any woman out there thinking of yelling rape when she knows she's lying.
All this woman did was make it that much harder on REAL rape victims and that's a shame. It's hard enough as it is for a woman to come forward with such a shameful crime. Rape victims already think no one will believe them. And now, because of this woman, every police officer in the country will probably look at rape victims and think "was she really raped or is she lying like that duke case?" If nothing else, this woman should be fully prosecuted w/ every legal tactic possible because she RUINED people's lives with her charade. She should NEVER be allowed to live that down. If she's going to ruin someone else's life, then hers should be ruined too.

Because when the Attorney General exonerated the boys, he included a statement that as a result of the investigation into the incident he believed that the accuser may have actually believed her story, even in all its different versions. This effectively provided her with the necessary defense if anyone did try to come after her for false accusation.
Edit: Just because you don't agree with the Attorney General's statement, don't give ME a thumbs down!! He stated there would be no charges filed against the accuser. Period. "Mangum likely still believes the sexual assault allegation and wanted to proceed with the case, Cooper said. But he said criminal charges wouldn't be pursued against her."

the females who falsely accused the gamers of rape is in reality on the backside rungs of society initially - she's out doing bachelor events et all, to assist her lifestlye and her in all probability addictive drug conduct. Her life's a large number. How plenty extra justice is gonna be performed prosecuting her. The Duke gamers nicely went after the district attorneys place of work - the place the blame could desire to lay, and the place the money is.

You are very bright! Most people do not realize that calling anything rape that is not rape seriously damages the real rape victims by making the word seem less horrible than the act actually is. In reality, rather than kill or physically disable someone, I cannot imagine a more destructive act to perpetrate on a person, female or male.
In my opinion, the only thing that would allow this local prosecutors office to regain any level of credibility would be to prosecute this woman.

The process is impossibly compicated because she appeared before a grand jury without being required to waive immunity. As a result, she is immune from prosecution for the transactions about which she testified, which undoubtedly included swearing that the statement she gave the police was her statement.
Yes, she committed perjury and could be tried for that, but perjury is a rarely-prosecuted crime except when it's being used as a surrogate for something else.

There is nothing to recover from the girl and it would be a waste of time.
Bigger money lies with the prosecutor, City of Durham, UNC, . . . who stripped these boys of their constitutional rights of due process (or habeas corpus) and put these kids through a hell they did not deserve. Heads need to roll, and things need to be made right. Officials did not do their jobs in protecting their own citizens nor in providing their residents due process and the government is responsible for this and the officials also both in the Durham, NC state, and the college campus levels.

What would be the point on doing that? As far as a civil law suit She doesn't have a penny. As far as the legal charges, they would only be for filing a false police report, charges that would carry a very light sentence and probably suspended, small fine and community service more likely. They ones should be sued and charged with harassment, defamation and false accusations should be those scumbags Al Sharpton and Jessee Jackson. The City should be sued for wrongful prosecution and the District Attorney Personally sued.

Society lets them get away with it because though people say girls and guys are equils they aren't.
If a girl says a guy did something to her everyone gets pissed.
However if a guy is wronged by a girl he should just suck it up like a man and move on.
It's not fair and it's not right and until people start treating guys the same as girls and the other way around on both sides neither will ever be equil to the other.
It's sad but true. And I fully agree with what you said as well, race had something to do with it too in that case I think.

Because you don't want real victims to be scared of coming forward, regardless of how much or how little evidence there is. I know it stinks, and she does have it coming. BUT...
I'd rather have her walking free (she'll screw up her life even more, I'm sure) than have some young woman terrified that if she comes forward, she risks jail if there isn't enough evidence.

because she was a stupid tramp that tried to collect a big payday from what she thought was some rich white kid's families. but since she has no real income, that can be proved, there is nothing to go after.
i agree that rapist should be punished but there are sluts that make claims to try to get the pay off. remember Kobe. she claimed she was a sweet innocent girl who was hanging out in a guy hotel room in the middle of the night and he raped her. never did explain how he did it with 5 other guy's sperm.

She was a lying ho . and I'm sure that if they did , they would call the race card out . she doesn't have anything and sure as hell won't be anything except a lying stripper . As soon as you pick on someone who is poor and black , here comes the media . and rev sharpell to back them up . She should have Had charges brought up on her for false accusations and made to pat the state and lawyer fees for all accused . God will get her... she has to answer to a higher power
