AOL won't detect my modem...why?

i had a lightning storm and when i went to sign onto aol it was making a clicking noise and would not sign on. so I put in a new modem- now when i sign on it says that aol does not detect modem. but under my computer properties its showing that it was installed....so now what? (please keep it simple as i am not very knowledgible about computers)

Using AOL, I would re-configure the modem.

In AOL, you will need to re-scan the modem so AOL will know how to make use of it.
