THIS IS NOT A POLITICAL QUESTION!!! I do not want to know your opinion on immigration. Just FACTS and law. I am not indicating any opinion in this question.
I just want to know the specific law about coming across the border without documentation. Walking in without permission. Is that a crime? When people say "illegal immigrants", what exactly is illegal? Which specific law states the appropriate and inappropriate method of entering this country, and what are the penalties for breaking such law(s)?

"Generally, 28 U.S.C. § 994 details the federal sentencing guidelines for illegal entry into the country."
So what is the sentence? The question is: What is illegal, and what is the penalty?
