I have been on the Depo shot for a little over a year and am not getting my next dose (due this month). I haven't had a regular period since I started taking the shot and rarely do I even have spotting but for the last 3 weeks I've been pretty consistantly spotting and my husband is wondering if there is a problem. I tend to think it's just my body reacting to the decreased hormones from not getting the shot, but now after 3 weeks of this, I'm starting to wonder if I should consult my Dr.

Has anyone else experienced this or know if this is indeed normal?

I have been rather ... testy... lately too which leads me to think it is related to a hormonal shift, but I'd hate to dismiss something important. Any advice would be appreciated.

for clarification, I keep getting advice on switching birth control methods but that is no longer a concern for my husband and I. Thanks for the input though

Yeah, I've taken the depo shot ones (7.5 months ago) and I also had spotting, then it was nonstop spotting, even now... I still have stronger spotting when I should be getting my period... but this time it only last like 7-9 days a month. It's more than regular spotting but less than a period. little by little as the shot wears out, the spotting will be shorter time and more blood (to your period cycle), eventually it'll return to normal.

oh and when my body was trying to clean it out, I started having alot of brown discharge and brown period, but that is all the old blood, the spotting usually doesn't clean out all the blood so it leaves alot of it in there...

don't worry it's normal.

I used to take the Depo, and I hated it....I had spotting for 6 months straight!! it was horrible...It wasn't like blood but a dark red and a little gewy....It's very normal to have spotting and dramatic weight gain on the depo prevara....Everyone is different tho, I have friends that are on it and love and I have friends who had the same experience as me.....I wouldn't worry to much you're OK..I promise , just talk to your doctor and maybe find something that is better for you....The ring worked for me its easy you change it once a month and you cant even feel it...

Yes but I strongly suggest researching the depo shot. I took it for several years and now have PCOS. There is a known link between depo provera and PCOS. Please do some research. I honeslty believe this drug should be taken off the market. PCOS can cause infertility you are right, but it can also cause LOTS of pain.

Depo can cause all kinds of bleeding troubles. I think I spotted pretty much all the time when I tried it.
Try Nuvaring. I use it constantly so never have to bleed- love it!
