i'll take a different view because it's all been said above there.

Safety - if you've got a car that quick, you need to be safe. I owe my life to the roll cage that's built into the WRX shell. I had a large Eucalypt (Gum) tree fall on me in a wild storm here in Australia. The bonnet/hood smashed, the boot/trunk squashed to the floor, the metal in the roof ripped a bit but the structure stayed good.

The same day a guy was killed by a much smaller tree in an ordinary Lancer - the one the Evo shares its body with as far as I know. I understand Subaru's new Rex makes a five star ANCAP safety rating - one of about three cars on the market here in Australia to do so (another one is the Liberty).

The Subaru WRX STI is a better car - from what I've been able to learn the past few months in researching both. I do like the looks of the new EVO better than the Subaru, but if you're looking for performance, reliability and experience - gotta be the STI

I've owned the Evo and driven a friend's STI many times. The STI is better. Maybe they are close on a track but but for living with everyday, the STI wins hands down. I liked the speed in my Evo but I was filling up every 200 miles , and they have crappy clutches. Anyone can try to debate that with me but even Mitsubishi admits that the clutch is the Evo's weakness. They aren't very reliable no matter what anyone tells you. That's to be expected when you're running 19 psi boost in a 2.0 liter motor. I'd take my chances with the 14.5 psi and a 2.5 liter STI anyday. Also, Subarus are simply better cars mechanically and build quality wise than Mitsubishi. The Evo did look better though.

Ok, i love this question lol. The Evo and STi are very similar in the AWD turbocharged 4 cylinder 300hp tuner car market. Both have 6spd manual transmision, and both hold that same aggresive outside look with the big wing and front hood scoop. The interiors are similar to with bucket style racing seats and sporty looking overall. But when i was deciding which to get it came down to one thing really. The STi is a much more comforatable ride but (sad to say and someone will say something about this) the suspension just didnt feel as tight as the evo, however the EVO does not produce the comfort on a bumpy road.....so good luck with your decision....i went subaru!!!

depends on what your looking for. i hear this question all the time on yahoo. i own a subie and i love it. im sure if i had a evo i would love it too. the 4g63 is a legendary motor. like the 2jz motors in supras and the 350 in vettes. the sti is more comfortable and has a nicer interior and it sounds amazing when you put a turbo back exhaust on. the evo has a tighter suspension and has a higher compression. i have done work to my sti and its quick but there are evos that will walk all over me at the track. DSM (Evo) arent as reliable as subaru is and if anyone as owned a DSM they will agree with that. good motor but problematic. if you want a evo try to get a VIII because they are the best in my eyes, and if you want a sti get a 04-05 or wait for the 08. eitherway if you havent owned a AWD car then there is some getting use to so when you first get it you need to learn it. my sti is the second AWD car i owned and i will never own anything but AWD. good luck and im sure if you get one or the other you will like it.

Theyre such similar cars, and so close in performance, its honestly completely personal preference.

for 05, Id take an STi over an evo. For 04, Id take an EVO over STi. For 06+, id take an evo.

also: to the guy above me: The EVOs motor is possibly the best 4 cylinder ever built. If anything thats its biggest advantage over the scooby (although the subaru's motor sounds much better).
