I believe you've referred to the 1977 New York Times article of the late British author Sir Malcolm Bradbury, an American Studies professor for 32 years beginning in 1965, whom once said "If God had been a liberal, we wouldn't have had the Ten Commandments; we'd have the Ten Suggestions." He wrote several books and TV scripts, and tutored several successful authors in his classes at the University of East Anglia.

Sir Malcolm had a sharp disdain for the direction of society today, which he felt was generally becoming more and more about simply communicating despite being without a message.

To me, "havernization" is where a piece of society determines its own course by simply reinforcing its own sheltered current culture instead of the world around it. As children grow into these societies, they adapt and become like the others. I suggest the small tribes of people in Africa or Indonesia that haven't had other socialized human contact for thousands of years are examples.

I believe in Bradbury's mind, that he felt America was so stuck in its own world it is fast becoming irrelevant to actual world events. I'm an American, retired after 20 years military service, and I'm guessing that's not too far from the truth these days.
