Speaking purely as a consumer, I "used" to say Apple flat-out but my opinion of them has wavered in the last few months. Their quality control seems to either be lacking or non-existent; I've returned 3 Macbooks for cosmetic issues ranging from case separation, broken keys, and creaking display. Your mileage may vary, but as a pro-user it is unacceptable of any company to have these issues. I've since gotten rid of it and went back to HP.

That said, I've owned three HP notebooks and am writing this on my fourth.

N5190, ZV6000, DV1660SE, and now a TX1320US Tablet.

Only two have gone in for repair...

N5190 = Hard Drive failure...replaced..modem died 2.5yrs later (fried in a bad PBX system)...replaced under warranty by incompetent Compusa staff who dropped the computer on the floor in the store when I went to pick it up...go figure.

DV1600SE = Motherboard failure (remote stopped working)....sent out Monday, got back Thursday...14 months old and still works fine.

HP's repair service has been very pleasant to deal with and I recommend their products b/c so far I've had good service w/ them. (Your mileage may vary). I can repair my own equipment but do not touch it if it is still under warranty; hence, I can see the difference between a botched repair and a good, quality repair and I've yet seen or had a botched repair thru HP.

As a suggestion, my TX1320US is a great tablet for the price ($1200) and it's the first time I've bought an ext. warranty for any computer (drop protection $220 for 2yrs).
