My daughter's 3rd grade teacher has asked me to check on some healthy snacks for the halloween party at school since the kids are going to be getting enough sugar that day. Does anyone know of some ideas or even some web sites that you have tried and liked?? Please share with me. We would also like to make them fun for the children.

I think the best thing for the kids is protein. My favorite snack to bring is cut-up cheese bites, and fresh fruit, perhaps with a yogurt dip.

You can make octopus hot dogs by quartering the lower half of them (leaving them attached) and then boiling. The cut parts will curl.

Or, slice the hot dogs and serve on crackers with cheese.

Peanut butter & jelly on crackers (messy, though)

There's also always weiners bites in a bun, or pizza bagels.

Pretzels and cheese dip is another way to go.

There are a few healthy Halloween snack options but Halloween is mostly about candy. Here are some ideas that you can buy at the store instead of having to make at home:

*Granola bars
*Cereal bars
*Baked potato chips (actually supposed to be a lot healthier than regular chips).
*Bags of peanuts
*Popcorn with very little butter and salt
*Trail mix
*Apples or oranges

You could make hummus skeleton, which is pretty much just a few crackers pasted together with hummus, then celery, carrots, and broccoli are added onto it so the crackers will be eaten last. The broccoli is hair, the celery is the arms, and the carrots are the legs. You could also do a version with different types of fruit and yogurt. Or you could do trail mix which is still good. Or you could do yummy mummy which is like bacon or prosciutto wrapped in filo dough into the shape of a mummy, with some olives for eyes and and then covered with a little bit of olive oil to make it golden brown.
