The oil pan seal (gasket) is around the perimeter of the oil pan.

You don't need to ditch the car. Just monitor your oil level and leakage. It won't hurt your car a bit as long as you make sure it always has enough oil in it. You might want to have it fixed though if it's making a mess on the ground where you park.

I had a car that the service department said had a leaky oil pan gasket. I looked underneath and there was a drop or two of oil hanging on the bottom of the oil pan. It never left any oil on the ground though, and the oil level never went down at all, and it never got any worse, so it was no problem whatsoever.

Just keep an eye on it...if it gets worse check your oil often and look into getting the gasket replaced. It depends on the car whether or not it's a difficult repair or not. On my Toyota 4x4 truck, I can easily do it myself in under an hour. On some cars, the engine may need to be lifted up in order to get to the pan.

Car type & mileage? Oil Pan Gasket? What is he talking about "Get a new car".....For and oil leak/? is he...............? Check the oil level on the dipstick every 2 or 3 days. Go to a good shop or station to find out how bad it really is. Think about changing it when you get time and money.

its the seal that goes around the oil pan you can pick one up at your local auto parts store and have the oil place fix it or do it yourself for cheaper.
