Soup, you got it. The Challenges of today and yesterday are so much different, that you can not even compare, so to hang on to the same ideology is like spitting into the wind. We need to re-think our positions to what is current and relevant. Example: Abortion. Supreme Court Ruled on that, and unless we planned on a constitutional amendment to change the ruling, it should forever be put out to pasture. (I am against abortion) Instead of concentrating on what divides us as a nation, we should concentrate on where we agree, fix those problems first, because we are in consensus, then we can work on the ones we are divided on. I do not understand how a majority of Americans want election and campaign reform, and yet, we can not get this done. I do not understand how a huge majority of Americans want immigration reform, and we can not get this done. Where the hell is the congress in this, and instead of bvtching about lapel pins, phony soldiers, trophy wife's, and who is the better and bigger patriot, why are we not screaming at the top of our lungs to congress to take care of immigration, campaign reform, and energy dependency.

Define "Reagan Republicanism." I've noticed this term differs depending on who is using it. Irrelevant? Only if globalism isn't met soon by some serious American ingenuity and competitiveness. Irrelevant only if the entitlement mentality has taken ahold of the entire US population.
I've also observed that "60's like Democratic relativism" has taken hold of our youth via their pop culture and public education. Irrelevant? If so, only because it has been indoctrinated already.
So--just set those notions aside and look at the contenders today.
Of these contenders, who has the best chance of meeting us where we live and uniting this nation?

Republicans and Democrats are just trying to get paid like everyone else in this country. Why do you think there are so many infomercials on TV after 10:00 P.M. now... it wasn't like that 10 years ago. It's because everyone is desperate to get rich at any cost, the smart people know, having money is going to be your only salvation in the near future. If you are just middle class, trying to make it form week to week, you are about to get screwed big time.

Actually I disagree. The values expressed by traditional conservatism and the social consciousness of 60's liberalism are benefits to society. Both are necessary for a good balance. The problem today is that neither of these values are being practiced by the current leadership of this country. We can meet the challenges of the new age, but that is not what modern politics is about. Today the goal is keep as divided as possible and constantly at each others throats. The reason why is because it keeps us from properly focusing on issues requiring solutions acceptable to both sides and the utter failings of our leadership to address them honestly.

Your challenge is spelling.
No, I have to say I disagree. I think the politicians now are a step down from what they were in the recent past.

You are correct. Neither party has a legitimate answer to today's concerns.
But the Republicans are particularly dangerous, because in their flailing around they are probably going to end up criminalizing dissent.
And then we will be just a tin pot dictatorship, which they seem to be fine with.

Agreed. Modern political ideologies are starting to look like a cavalry of horses going up against the gattling gun. The world has changed. The political discourse seems to be divorced from the needs and interests of the American people.

I think the two parties have seen what they can get away with and continue to push the envelope almost daily - this seems to be the new idealogy - they overstep their bounds often (at the expense of citizens prosperity)and then state they will fix it but never do -

have things changed so much?
remember, when Hitler came to power, he also told everyone they were "living in a new era" and that changes would have to be made to pave the way of the 3rd Reich....
some things, like ethics, do not change as the years go by.
