Recently my son(3 months old) has been spitting up more than normal. He usually only spit up alittle once ot twice during each feeding. Now it's like 4 times but alort bigger amount. He cries hard while being burped inbetween and after. I think he's vomiting instead of spitting up, but im not sure. The spitup/ vomit always has mucous in it and sometimes curdy. Every feeding he gets really fidgity and fussy. After 2 ounces he starts choking while he's eatting. Before he took 6 ounces , now its hard for him to even take 4 ounces. In the beginning he was very colicky, but it let up alot. Any one have any idea what it could be? Should I try to switch to soy? Can you just switch right away? or do you have to ease into it? He has no diahrrea or nothing like like.

My oldest had a similar problem at just about the same age. His pediatrician switched him to soy formula. I suggest you take your son to his dr., and let him evaluate him and determine if it's just a problem with the formula or if it's a condition (ex: Reflux) that's causing him to spit up and/or vomit as he is.

Talk to your ped before switching him to soy. There are actually problems associated with soy formula so it should be your last ditch. It could be that he has acid reflux. Oftentimes, peds recommend giving the infant some cereal to prevent that. Find out what's up. And yes, you may need a different kind of formula.

Please note: No your baby will not explode if given soy formula. However, since soy has phytoestrogens, there is some concern on long term effects on baby boys. There were a few other things, but most kids who have soy have it because they can't drink cows milk.

More air gets into a bottle's nipple than yours, so it is not unusual for breast-fed babies to get gas when they make the switch. I'm personally not a fan of soy is there is no lactose allergy, but I wouldn't worry too much about the spitting up...my youngest was a puker when she was a baby. She ate well but still puked when we burped her and then randomly at times. Some babies are just like that. It's gross and a pain, but as long as your baby is growing & developing, i.e. getting the nutrients she needs, the spitting up thing is just another delightful aspect of parenthood.

Id suggest talking to his doc first. Just to ease your mind a bit my little one is breastfed and around 3- 31/2 months she started spitting up allot more then before. I'm not sure if she over eats or what. Also at this age babies get more interested in the outside world and less interested in eating. They tend to be more difficult. My baby bobs on and off my boob like crazy trying to get a peak of what else is going on. Plus when I do feed her milk from a bottle she takes 4-5 oz when she used to take up to 7oz. I hope this helps a little.

he might have reflux, which means this will happen no matter what kind of formula you use. Maybe before switching try giving him 1/8 to 1/4 of a teaspoon of the Mylanta liquid. My doc told me to do that for my oldest. He said that the Mylanta is safe (in very small doses) for a child as young as 2 weeks old. If that doesn't work, then maybe try changing formula. If that doesn't work, talk to a doctor at your next checkup, or before if it's really bad, they might have another idea.

Take him to his pediatrician. To me it sounds like a milk allergy. I would ask your pediatrician about switching. Is he vomiting: It flies out of his mouth and soaks everythng and it seems like he just vomited everything he ate. Or is it spit up: dribbles down his chin? If it's vomit take him ASAP.

You have to ease into it, I believe. Consult his pediatrician before switching his formula.

Some people believe soy formula is bad, as soy can mimic estrogen. Whether you should use it is up to you and his doctor.
