Yes, I tend to pick up other people's negativity at times. Other times they are able to pick up my positive attitude. So I guess it evens out. One difference is whether we talk things over or just act crabby. If you are willing to talk about what's bumming you out, I can usually come up with something to make it seem not so bad.

I agree with Meerkatz's answer. When a child, I was the Pollyanna in our family (check out the classic book IF you do not understand the reference). As I grew to adulthood, I became negative and pessimistic.

Now in middle age, I tend to hope for the best and prepare for the worst. I am more flexible, and try to keep a sense of humor no matter what group of people I am with (negative or positive). Family members who are negative are the most difficult to deal with while it is easier to distance ourselves from those whose negativity bring us down.

People like myself who are prone to depression are more affected by the moods of others and have to fight the urge to be brought down by negativity.

Poor souls lost.....
If not for the negative, how would one ever know the positive, for one can not exist without the other.......
In all things, there must be a positive, a negative, and a neutral, this applies to everything, throughout the universe.
If you think I'm am not truthful, then by all means do "research" yourself......
Have the finest of days.....

Yes and If you read or watch the movie "Secret" you will find all answers you need. Just Google it. It helped me a lot. this is why I got rid of all my negative friends because their personality rubbed off on me and i was having bad luck, etc. Think of it this way. If all your friends were rich, then you would end up rich too!

I try to stay positive all the time, but when you are at work and the girl next you is lazy and always bitching about something, then yes it starts to rub off on me and puts me in a shitty mood.

Negativity can creep in whether you try to block it or not. I still have trouble distancing myself from negativity.

It's my choice: which wolf do I choose to feed?
(you know, the Native American story where the grandfather explains to a little boy that in every one of us, there are 2 wolves living: one is kind and generous and the other is mean and nasty. The one that you feed, grows)

NOPE. I don't hang out with negative people. I do happen to work with some AND be related to some I can't avoid. I just minimize my time and interaction with them.
