The term "conservative" has been intentionally left vague and confusing to preserve deniability to hide the fact that conservatives are long-term losers in all political disputes. Another reason is the fact that political conservatism is being sold to politically naive people who believe they are working to preserve universal moral principles that by definition don`t change while conservative political positions are changing all the time.

I am a conservative and my ideas have not been hijacked by anyone, or any other ideology. However, I will grant you that much of the Republican leadership which presents itself as Conservative is anything but. For this reason I choose to be independent in my voting and thinking patterns. I look for people running for office who espouse the ideas which have been traditionally held by Conservatives in this country and not the new extremist flavor which has developed over the last several years. The funny thing is that even though I never considered myself a Republican, I often voted with them. I have never felt as disconnected from that party as I do today. I now understand the same disconnect expressed to me by many Democratic friends when talking of the ultra left takeover of their party. My thought is that it is time for the people of the United States to take back our political landscape from the usurpers with radical agendas on both sides of the spectrum.

Because people who are conservative and cans they are conservative.
You can't do that with liberals.
When ask if someone is liberal on the policatical stage there is a long song and dance or they say they are "progressive".
On talk radio you have many who say they are conservative yet very few who say they are liberal.
Nice twisting around the subject. Do you work for Media Matters?
You should do sound like those who twisted quotes of Bill and Rush.

Apparently so.
Look how "conservative" the present administration is.
Nation building.
Biggest Federal Government in US history.
Largest percentage increase in Fed spending ever.
Come to think of it, that does sound "conservative" to me.

I don't follow. Can you give some examples of people who claim to be conservative and are not?

Yes. Opposing abortion, gun laws and gay marriage while running up huge federal deficits and usurping states' rights does not a conservative make.

True conservatives are becoming as extinct as the dinosaur. Oh well. Although I will miss them, it is their own doing..
