I just built a new computer for the livivng room and its replacing the old one my sisters broke. It turns on and starts up goes to the hit f1 to continue or del for bios blah blah...i hit f1 and insert the XP disc and it says "Boot from CD _" then it says "boot disc failure enter system disc and hit enter"

I changed the boot order in the bios to Cd rom drive and tried it again....same thing happened. I tried to make my own bootable CD with windows on it still the same thing....

I didnt put in a floppy disc drive....theres only 1 HDD and cd rom drive....i tried puttin in the disc after the messege i changed a bunch of stuff in the bios then changed it back.....I have no idea what could be wrong now.

In the bios it says it detects the CD rom drive and the HDD (which is clear cuz i just bought it new)

Im so frustrated because it seems everytime i do something like this it never goes smoothly!!

Im going to go try to use a different CD rom drive right now....
thanks alot.

If your system has a floppy then make a bootable floppy and boot to the A: drive (boot with CD drivers if given the option with the floppy), then after you boot to the A: drive
your screen will be all black and it will be a DOS screen.

Put the xp drive into the cd tray.

Change to the CD drive by using something like cd d:\ (or whatever it told you was the CD rom's drive letter)

When you finally get to the d:\ drive you can then run setup.exe off the d:\

If you don't have a floppy then you need to get a bootable CD rom as it looks like the one you have now isn't.

there might be a problem with your bootable cd try using a original xp cd and see if works. just stay with the setting of your bios and leave it at boot cd rom first. that will do the trick

Hi. Sisters. Ya gotta love 'em. Your CD may not have a bootable version on it. If you can, have a friend burn "Bart PE" OS on a CD (Free). http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ See if the drive can read this. Or try to boot from a floppy (seems like you tried this). Try not to get frustrated. Just think of how good you'll feel when you solve this!
