For example, when crossing from France to UK, are cars from France usable on UK roads?

the short answer is Yes, it is 100% legal... however, you have to be comfortable with the transition... In the UK, they drive on the left side of the road, however, I've taken my American car with the steering wheel on the left side of the car to UK... it felt a little strange at first because I was driving so far away from the center line of the road... but after a while you get used to it.

The same holds true for UK cars in America... I have a friend who was stationed in Japan. while there he bought a truck and brought it back to the states when he retired... Now it's his everyday driver.

Yes Deff i drive from the UK to France,also where iam in the UK there is a good few American Mustangs.
