I had an epidural with my first child, it somehow only worked on the right side of my body and they knocked me out with something else. I then fell and hurt my back really bad one winter. When I was having my second child htey had trouble getting the epidural in my back, then half way through my labor it wore off. They came and fixed it but it wore off again and I had no pain meds when she was actually being born. I'm thinking it's not worth the trouble. If we have a 3rd baby I am going to have it natural with no drugs. Is that a good idea? I have long labors. first was 10 1/2 hours second was 12 1/2 hours.

I've had a 24 hour labor without any medications - all four of mine were that way, just shorter labors with the last 3.
I never wanted meds unless I needed them (which I didn't) and I had back labor everytime too, which is supposed to be the very worst. It could have been the epidurals made you labors longer than they would have been without. I've heard of that happening.
I would try without and see how you do. If you already felt it when she was being born, that's pretty much the worst of it. Transition is the worst part and it only lasts 8-12 mins or less. Once you start pushing, you're good to go. My babies were all born awake and aware and had no issues nursing. What a blessing!
Best Wishes - I'm sure you'll be fine, you're a pro now!

I think natural birth is totally cool. I had an epidural the first time and my baby was born unable to nurse properly. I traded several hours of pain for weeks of nipple pain. It wasn't worth it. WIth my second child, I read a couple really good books about natural birth. I filled my hospital room with women who had done it and I just focused on staying relaxed and breathing. I labored in the tub and I recommend that.

You can do it, girl!

If that is your choice, than thats excellent. Natural child birth CAN be done.

However, let me share a story. When my sister had her first child, they gave her an epidural that was only semi-successful. She too said it wore off before she even had the baby. Since it, in her opinion, had wore off, she decided to go natural on her 2nd child. During the birth of her 2nd child when she was actually pushing out her baby, she realized the epidural hadn't wore off -- it just wasn't super strong. She said the pain was MUCH more intense than what it had been previously. She was screaming/crying and begging for an epidural, but they told her it was too late as she was already at 10 and pushing. When she had her 3rd baby, she opted for the epidural again, claiming that the "real" natural birth was absolute agony and much worse than when she had thought her first epidural wore off.

This is rather some thing you have to be discussing together with your surgeon. If your surgeon is not being useful, then discover an extra surgeon. What sort of surgeon are you seeing for this quandary? A ache expert? Neurologist? But the truth that you had been equipped to decrease so vastly with out experiencing withdrawal your self could propose that you did not have a lot in the best way of bodily dependancy/tolerance -- that's honestly the typical sample while narcotics are taken as prescribed in constrained quantities. (Contrary to fable, such a lot men and women do not grow to be hooked on their prescription ache meds.) Still, I do not consider I'd attempt to bloodless-turkey it. Putting your little one by way of withdrawal en-utero could most probably be MORE hazardous than doing it as soon as he is on the planet. (Where he can also be handled for any colossal signs.) If you can not discover a ache expert or different surgeon to paintings with, INSIST that your surgeon talk about this with you, and investigate the professionals and cons (each for little one's health and wellbeing and your possess -- presumnably there may be a few lovely colossal and painful clinical quandary in case you've been prescribed prime doses of such robust ache meds, and also you do your little one no well if you're bedridden in extreme ache) of quitting vs. reducing again additional vs. staying wherein you're -- and the nice option to acheive your ambitions.)

If it's what you want and you believe you can handle it, go for it. My first child, I had him without meds, and it was a long labor at 24 + hrs but it was a wonderful experience. My second one, was induced @ 34 wks due to me having severe anemia and still, I went the same route (and I had back labor for both) but because of problems I started to have, after 15 hrs I ended up with a c-section. Good luck!
