i think that the phrase "i love you" is only abused when you say it day after day to someone you dont truly love. this question is asked too much but many people are curious. I love you is a phrase meaning that you would do a lot of things for that person, you dont know the true reasons behind your feelings, you find yoursel fseeking their happiness instead of yours

Aye I do. It may be I`m just sad and lonely or just incapable of giving or receiving love. The term is often used without conviction these days. I love jam doughnuts for example and I can cite why. I wouldn`t eat them all day for they would make me sick. I think folk get mixed up a wee tad, they often mistake love for a facet of some ones character. It is easier to love someones sense of humor but not the other qualities they may or indeed may not have. For me love produces all sorts of physical, emotional and mental reactions, true love is entirely unconditional and in my view, the best example is the love god has for us

I believe so. I think it should only be said once meant, but the majority of the time when people use the phrase it's just a spur of the moment type thing.

yes. especially among young people. they throw around the word meaninglessly because their life experience is not great enough to understand what "i love you" really means. it comes out robotically whether someone actually loves someone or not. its like saying thankyou...you just HAVE to say it back. i think a lot of older people use it robotically too when they've been together a long time. they say it just to passify each other and don't really mean it anymore. they don't really use it stabilize any kind of deeper emotional connection anymore. i personally refuse to say it unless i really really reallly mean it and i refuse to say it often like most people do if they're talking on the phone or parting ways or something. i save it for special, meaningful occassions when i've bonded deeper with the other person and i think that is the only time it actually is meaningful.

Yes, I do. I think people say it so much to each other that sometimes we say it as a habit and forget what it really means. I've been married 17 years today, I have 2 sons and a grand son and I think my husband and I say it to each other 5-6 times a day still. But sometimes when I think about it do we really still love each other? I know we do but do we really LOVE each other? It's crazy but I sometimes wonder how many people that say it really mean it.

Yes. I think that society makes love seem like this great thing in life that u have to have. I think people think that every person they're with longer than 2 months is the love of their life. I love you really means a lot but prolly only 5% of the people who say i love you mean it.

People have learned to use that phrase so easily that it becomes naturally to say it before it truly should be used. I'm an author and had to learn a bit about this for my books.

I make sure that I tell all my friends and family that I love them. I don't use it lightly and I truly mean it. Life is too short to not tell someone that you really care about them. I live a great distance from my family and my friends so I tell them at the end of every conversation because I don't know when I will see them again and I want them to know that they are loved.

Hell yea. I know I used to abuse that phrase so much towards my ex-boyfriend that I really don't know what love is anymore. What a pity.

Anything overused will lose it's vigor and become worn down. So if you only say it when you really mean it, in a manner that really shows you mean it, it'll be the most powerful thing you could ever say. Likewise, if you overuse it, it'll mean little to nothing.
