Help!!! I am sleeping maybe 3 hours a night. My husband snores terribly!!! He is so loud!!! We tried the breathe right strips and they don't seem to help. he won't be able to do the mask thing cause he hates sleeping with anything like that. His gag reflex is very touchy so any spray and he'll puke and he really doesn't like swallowing pills. He says, however, that he will do whatever in order for me to sleep. I have tried sleeping on the couch but my back ends up hurting and he can't cause he's too tall and it would be uncomfortable. I lay awake and envision ways to cut off his nose...lol. Last night I didn't get to sleep until 4 this morning just from exhaustion and then I got up at 6:30 with the kids for school. It just kills my energy for the day. I would like to try natural remedies if I could. Any ideas anyone?

yes he is overweight. he's not wide but he has a belly - like he's 9 months pregnant. I told him that's why he is snoring and he needs to lose weight. He is trying. Cutting back to one portion at night, riding the stationary bike 45 min 3x's a wk. However, until he loses the weight needed I was hoping for some remedies.

If his snoring is really loud and disruptive, chances are good that he has a condition called sleep apnea, which MUST be taken seriously. Untreated sleep apnea not only stresses both the snorer and everyone else in the house who can't get a good night's sleep, it can also lead to heart malfunction and death! Contrary to popular belief, people who are not overweight CAN have sleep apnea, and it can kill normal-weight people as fast as obese ones.

Apnea is easily treated with the use of a night-breathing aid called a CPAP. They make masks that are not as confining as the ones he may have seen in the past -- ask about "nasal pillows." He must see a sleep doctor before he can get a CPAP, as they have to be individually adjusted, but most insurance covers the cost. CPAP eliminates snoring 100% and keeps his heart from being damaged. Surgery is very rarely used to treat apnea, as the success rate is not that good.

Please ask your doctor to refer him to a sleep doctor or sleep clinic ASAP. These facilities often have a long waiting list, and procrastinating can really damage his health. Do it today.

This is damaging his health and yours as well, and you need to be very firm with him that he IS going to get a sleep study done! Sleep apnea patients often are in denial about their condition, as they don't hear their own snoring. He will have to make some adjustments, but he will feel so much better (and so will you) that he will later be glad you pushed him. I speak from experience -- I didn't believe I snored until a friend I was staying with told me the same thing my spouse had been complaining about for months.

A Pulmonary Dr. would order a sleep study done on your loved one. It's painless and would record the brainwave of depth of sleep plus the oxygen level of this blood as he sleeps.
The results of the sleep study will tell the pulmonary specialist if he needs a CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) pump to eliminate any level of snoring. Machines are so advanced today that they can be used in conjunction with a heated humidifier if necessary.
Please bare in mind, snoring does not necessarily mean your husband has sleep apnea. You can decide this for yourself by listen it him while he snores. If this breathing momentarily stops for a number of seconds followed by gasping before he continues to snore, that's an indicator that he definitely has sleep apnea.
In any event he should seek treatment because severe sleep apnea can be deadly.
I weigh 215 and stand 6" 4" and sound like a Husquvarna Chainsaw. Thanks to my Pulmonary Dr. and my Remstar C-Flex CPAP pump I sleep like a baby and feel full of energy.

Snoring may increase stroking risk. You can avoid it by getting anti snoring devices and treatments. My wife is also suffered from snoring, we can not sleep silent in a single bed, when i come to know about Health Vision, then we discuss there and get treatment and using an anti snoring device. This device is very beneficial for us. For more information, please visit: http://goo.gl/sOLCcw

He needs to loose the weight and keep in mind that it did not just jump on him when he was sleeping one night. It was over a period of time. Yea he has the dreaded sleep apnea, so the weight thing would be a big help, also I had surgery long time ago and it did help. They removed the hanging down thing in back or the gag button. But now my weight is back up so I'm working on that one. The strips did help, so did the mouth wash stuff. I sleep on the couch, just right for it, the wife has to work so it is not a big deal here. yea I would like to be in bed with her but under the situation I have to deal with it.

I have heard of two old remedies for this ,one is sew a cork to the back of the neck of his pj's so he won't sleep on his back. The other is to hummmm, let's see how to put this delicately? Ah,have marital relations with him,so he'll be more relaxed -part of the snoring is having the throat too tight. It would be a good idea to take him to the DR and have him checked, there might be something medically wrong with him if he is making THAT much noise. Ear plugs for YOU might help in the meantime.

Stop Snoring Tips
The following tips will hopefully give you relief with your snoring problems. It's important to remember that different remedies will have varying success depending on the individual.
Elevate your head by sleeping on a thicker pillow or multiple pillows will help reduce your snoring.

Don't drink alcoholic beverages, take sleeping pills, tranquilizers, or antihistamines right before going to sleep, they will cause your muscles to relax and limit your air passage way.

Avoid dairy products, which can cause mucus build-up right before you go to sleep.

If you are overweight, losing some weight will reduce snoring by increasing the space in your air passage way.

Sleeping on your side instead of your back will help to prevent snoring.

A common remedy to prevent sleeping on your back is to sew a tennis ball to the back of your shirt; the discomfort of sleeping on the ball will prevent you from staying on your back.

Try following a regular sleep routine.

Try taking in a little bit of honey before sleeping.

Don't eat a big meal right before bed, if your stomach is full it will push up on your diaphragm and limit breathing passage ways.

Avoid eating "rich" foods such as cakes, cookies, chocolate and pizza.

Sleep on a firmer pillow, a pillow that's too soft encourages your throat muscles to relax and narrows your air passageway.

Inhale steam before sleeping or sleep in a room with a humidifier turned on, which will reduce congestion and moisturize the throat.

Purchase some nasal strips and put them on before going to sleep. Nasal strips will open up your nostrils and allow more air to come in, thus reduce snoring.

If you are a smoker, stop smoking, if that is not feasible then avoid smoking right before you go to bed. Smoking causes inflammation and swelling of the throat.

Take anti-snoring pills or use anti-snoring nasal spray.

Consult a medical profesional if your snoring continues to adversely affect your sleep.

Where are your sleeping plugs for your ears????
Sounds like he has sleep apnea, and he is probably overweight. You need a bed in another room if the ear plugs do not work. Yes, lack of sleep does kill the energy. You are working at night trying to sleep, that robs you of the energy you need for the next day.
The problem is his and not yours. He sounds like he may not want to get better, perhaps.
Good luck
