Naples was my favourite place to visit! I've been to Italy twice, the first time was to Venice and Florence, the second time to Rome and Naples. I wished we had spent longer in Naples, I just loved it.

Yes, I had heard some horror stories and had been warned off going there. When we arrived, a guy tried to sell us a laptop as we were walking out of the station, and the next day the same guy tried to sell us some watches ... by the time we left it was like we were all old friends, he recognised us and it was 'bon giornio' all round.

Our accommodation was on a street that didn't look very attractive, but it was in fact beautiful inside, and we had a wonderful view of Vesuvio. The people who ran it were very nice too, and always had plenty of advice and information for us.

In general, the people of Naples were amazing. They were the friendliest Italians I met, and that is saying something for a country full of very friendly people. Everyone warned us to mind our personal belongings by tapping their eye and then patting their handbags, everyone. We got a lot of 'Americani?' which was kind of funny, we are Irish and Dutch but living in Ireland ('Sono holandese, habito in Irlanda' as my husband said almost every hour).

Naturally we travelled to nearby places: Sorrento, Pompeii (which everyone should see if they can), Ischia and Positano (I'd love to rent a house there for a month), but also spent a few days wandering around Naples itself, and found the Merguellina area and the seafront itself to be capitvating.

The people were what made Naples so memorable for us. We came out of the Archaeological Museum and went down to the bus stop to try and figure out what bus we should take to get to where we wanted to go. The next thing we heard was 'Guten Tag. Sprechen Sie Deutsch?' and there was this very nice Neopolitan man who had lived in Germany for 20 years and who wanted to practise his German, he was most helpful regarding buses, so we chatted to him until our bus came. We got on the bus, and sat on either side of the aisle, me beside an older gentleman, who started talking to me. My Italian was limited at best, so after 'bon giornio' I really couldn't say anything else to him, and he began to talk very quickly to me ... I was there 'mi despiacio, non parlo Italiano' and of course he replied by asking 'Americani?' so I explained myself, and then tried to ask him where we should get off for a particular castle, whereupon he just started talking away and stabbing his finger on the map in the back of my guidebook, and I couldn't understand a word of what he was saying, then suddenly the woman in front turned around and said 'NO!' and started talking animatedly at him and also stabbing at my guidebook, and a minute later the couple behind joined in the conversation and the four of them arguing away ... I turned to my husband and he was in stitches of laughter. Finally the girl behind explained to us in English where we should get off the bus, so I was there 'grazie' to all of them.

But there was the most marvellous waitress in a local cafe beside where we were staying and she didn't speak any English, but was able to tell us about the dishes with gestures and intonation, she was a trip! Compared to Rome and other very touristy places, Naples was cheap, and we were so lucky too in that there was a breakfast cafe in the ground floor of our building and a food market just across the street, an open air one, with fresh fresh veg and herbs and everything .... I ate like a horse in Italy and still managed to lose weight while there, the food is so healthy.

I was so sad to leave Naples, I really was. It's one place I want to return to, I just loved it, the people, everything. So I'll go back there someday! Definitely!

I like Italy very much. I have been to Sorrento and Naples. Both interesting places. Capri is very beautiful. I love the glass that is made in Italy. Also the musical boxes. Pompeii was very interesting indeed and the trains to reach it are excellent.(more on time that in England)
Lida de Jesselo is a lovely place to take a holiday. The beach is lovely. Only thing I did not like was all the jelly fish around that area.
My favourite place was Venice. We went four times. We visited the little islands as well. We also went in the evening, and we loved seeing how the sea came right in to the square. We had never seen to many pigeons before. We love the history and all of Venice. I will visit there again one day.
We visited Florence and it is a wonderful city, we had a meal at a palace, sorry but I can't remember the name of it. I was surprised to see that you have to pay a toll to get into Florence. We visited Lake Garda and that was beautiful too. One day, I want to visit Rome.
I think Italy is one of my most favourite holidays. I love the people and the greenness of it and the food also.

Italy as a whole is the most passionate country I have traveled to.
The people are incredible, very nice and treat everyone as if they have been a friend for a long time.
The craftsman ship in everything from architecture to chocolate is special- They do things with pride and passion.
The historical value is terrific, walking across the forum in Rome is truly a reality check!
The way of life - The Italian people understand the gift of life. They cherish the small and simple moments in everyday life.
You have a wonderful country,
I did not want to come home from my first visit!! If I did not have 2 sweet angels waiting for me, I would have stayed.

Love the place - been to Sorrento, Milan and Lake Garda. Planning on going again next year.

The restaurants are very children friendly, the people are very welcoming.

Guys do tend to stare a lot though which can be a bit intimidating but other than that, it's a wonderful place
