It depends on what you are wanting to do.

Is this a weighting issue? For 25 stocks, a simple weighting solution is divide the money by the number of stocks, 25 in this case, and buy 1/25th of your money's worth for each stock on your list. The calculator and notepad features that come standard on your computer will easily be sufficient for that.

So even if you open a spreadsheet, what are you trying to do? As Emerson once quipped (and my wife gets sooo tired of me quoting him), "Direction before distance." First, you have to figure out what you are trying to do before you start doing something. There was a cartoon I used to have by my desk, where a guy was sitting in painful thought at an old typewriter with a page in the carriage. Two people were watching and one mutters, "He says he's a writer but can't think of what he is going to write." So you think you need a spreadsheet program to to some fancy figuring with 25 stocks? Just what do you fancy (as in imagine) you will want to do with it once it is open?

its a lot easier doing it at a web site like clearstation as they allow you to set up multiple portfolios with multiple stocks. They update the portfolios every 20 minutes as to price/
