First of all, I don't know that your assertion is accurate, but even if it is, it could easily be because for the longest time in human history women have been subjugated and treated as property or mere adjuncts to men. By that same reasoning, African American contributions to the world of inventions would similarly be much lesser comparatively. See how that works?

Okay bud, here's the deal:

kevlar
life raft
locomotive chimney
medical syringe
rotary engine
street-cleaning machine
submarine lamp and telescope

we will never know how many women inventors there were in history. let's get something straight here,
in addition to the historical rigamorole of denying women basic rights, basic education, lack of control over their sexual reproductive organs, denied the right to choose whom they would marry, omitted from government ( to name just a few)...women were also NOT allowed to get a PATENT in their own name. a PATENT is considered property and women were not allowed to own property, they were also not allowed to enter into legal contracts/agreements in their own name either. they had to submit their inventions under their husband's name. so many inventions are FALSELY attributed to men. the authority of these laws were and are ( in many areas of the world still) backed up with violence, by males in the immediate family, extended family, social organization, and /or government.
by the way, just so you know, the same stands for female authors, many had to publish under a male pseudonym, or under their husband's name.

Let's see: Could it be because women weren't allowed to WORK outside the home until just recently, from an historical standpoint? Could it be that women weren't allowed (or *heavily* discouraged) to enter college for anything other than education until just recently?

Kevlar, for one.
Because they have not been given the same opportunities to make discoveries. It can be hard to spend time developing new products when you are expected to do all the house work and take care of the kids 24/7.

The usual cop out answer is that they have not been creative or inventive because they have been supressed by patriarcy |( Men) but as they have had equal rights for 40+ i dont see much creativity as far as the female sex is concerned the other cheatnut is

They do not have to. It is the men who have to impress the women. We are already impressed just by the fact that they ARE women ; they do not have to invent anything to get our attention.
Everything men do is done to impress women.

I think because men/society held them back for so long. Think about education - the average woman did not get an equal education (at least in the USA) until the 20th century.

I cannot believe a woman created a bra. I felt sure that only a man would come up with something this uncomfortable for a woman to wear. Learn something new every day. Thanks.
