Mary I am extremely happy even though I live with chronic pain. Just today I went to the doctor and he signed me off on Long Term Disability due to pain. But I still have my senses (although some would argue this point I imagine. Ha!). A loving wife, three wonderful sons and two beautiful granddaughters are what help to keep me happy also. I am grateful for what I have and realize that there are lots of people who are worse off then me, so why should I not be happy.

Great deal of pain? Like... growing up with an depressed, alcoholic, drug-abusing father and bi-polar Mom. Being raped 3 times between the ages of 11 and 18. Having another persons beliefs constantly crammed down your throat for 2 years, when you should have been a kid and had some fun. First married young to escape all that, had baby, caught exH#1 cheating 3 times in a year and a half. Then married to a habitual liar while having Mom committed against her will every 3 or 4 months, raising child, and taking care of father. After 22 yrs. habitual liar turned into a cheater. Divorced. Son not speaking to me, blaming me for divorce. But for the past 3 years I have been free of Mom, Dad, brother, husbands, and son and yes, I have been extremely happy. Finally sane. Have devoted my whole life to taking care of other people. Finally got to take care of me for a while and liking it. Boo

First off, life is a series of moments. Happy moments, sad moments etc.- sometimes we have a series of them strung together However NOBODY is happy 100% of the time.
Over the past several years I've had a young brother die, severe heartbreak, financial problems, and other issues. Yet I during these periods I still managed to have happy moments. The solution for me is acceptence, and then action. Focusing on the present- whats my purpose today? And then moving on into action despite my emotional state.
When we resist reality the result is stress and unhappiness. Acceptence is the answer to all my problems today. Acceptence and moving on.
It's also important to be grateful for what we do have, however little it may seem at times. I often keep a "graitude rock" actually a pebble in my pocket to remind me at certain times.

I think that you can i have had a great deal of pain in my life and at one point i did not think i would be happy. But if you have family and freinds support in your life it is possible for you to be happy again. Pain usually subsides after a while...unless you hold on to it. It always lessens. Get some positive things in your life. My favorite quotes and they have help me get threw alot. "This too shall pass" and "What don't kill you could only make you stronger."
Good luck and take care.

Pain is a part of life. Happiness is an attitude. If you overcome the pain in your life to find happiness, you win. If you surrender to the pain and allow it to color your outlook and never try for happiness, the ones that hurt you win. If you can do anything to change the situation that is causing you pain you must do it or become accustomed to the pain and learn to enjoy life in spite of it.
You will be as happy as you yourself determine to be and no one can take that away.

I have, and all I can say is happiness after a lot of pain is not a goal as they make it seem in soap operas or the end of a Disney movie, it is something you work on every single day of your life.

Yes. I am happy with my life. The pain I have had in my life makes me appreciate what I have more. I choose to focus on the positive more than the negative.

Everything I've gone through has made me the person I am today. Smarter, stronger, and I care more about what happens to me, than I ever did before.
I can honestly say, that no matter what is going on around me now, I can be "happy" on the inside knowing I'm living my life to the best of my ability.
