Remind him that the White Sox are sitting at home. And even as bad as the Cubs have looked, it's still better than watching the playoffs on TV. Like the White Sox are doing.

The only thing that cheers me up is thinking about how the cubs took 5 of 6 against the sox this year, including all three at "the cell."
Tell him that. I guarantee a smile.

1. The Billy Goat has died
2. Steve Bartman was ran over by a Cubs Fan on his way to the park
3. Always Next Year
4. Think... at least we've won more World Series then the Kansas City Royals and Tampa Bay Devil Rays
5. At least there's a chance we get Alex Rodriguez (oh, sorry, that's how you depress a Cubs Fan)

This'll cheer him up:
Once there was a school teacher who lived in Milwaukee. On her first day, she wanted the kids to like her, so she said, "OK class, who here is a Milwaukee Brewers fan?"
Everyone in the class raised their hands except for one little girl in the back. Puzzled, the teacher said, "You're not a Brewers fan? What team do you like?"
"I am a Cub fan." said the little girl.
Perturbed, the teacher said, "You live in Milwaukee, why would you be a Cubs fan?"
"Because my mom is a Cubs fan, my dad is a Cubs fan, and therefore, I am a Cub fan," said the little girl.
The teacher couldn't believe it. "Well," she said, "you don't have to do everything your parents do. What if your mom was a prostitute and your father was a car thief? What would you do then?"
"Oh," said the little girl. "That's easy. Then I'd be a White Sox fan."
hahahaha

The Phillies are a worse franchise--1 world series to the Cubs 2, plus the Phils are the first to 10,000 losses.

How about the fact that they made it into the playoffs where 22 other teams didn't.
Only one team can win the world series, every other team will not.
Everyone is always looking at the negative, they have 3-5 games more to cheer for their team than the White Sox, or the Orioles, or the world champion Cardinals.

Remind them it's almost over. Getting swept is kind of like ripping a band-aid off fast. It minimizes the pain.

That it's far from over. As history has proven teams have come back from a 2-0 deficit.
