So I am going to Disney in a month and staying at the contemporary (2 adults). Already they are booked for chef mickeys breakfast!! Can I still try to walk in that day??
Do they really only take reservations for breakfast??
I understand dinner, but I find it hard to believe that I am staying at their hotel and can't walk in that morning without reservations. Has anyone done this??
I thought Disney is all about accomodations, shouldn't they accomodate me or is that only if I open my mouth?

You can always walk up and ask if they have anything available. Sometimes they won't have anything, sometimes they will have something, sometimes there will be a long walk, it all just depends.

If you already have a reservation, you can check in early and if they have a table sooner they will seat you. You get a buzzer and can walk around the floor, to shop or whatever.

There are a lot of people at Disney at any give time and a good amount of them don't have transportation to get around Orlando. Which means they all eat at Disney, which really fills up the restaurants. I know it seems inconvenient to have dining reservations, but without them there is a good chance you won't get to eat where you like. Chef Mickey's if very popular, it can be hard to even get an advanced dining reservation... I was just in Disney a few weeks ago, everytime I was in Contemporary there was an actual line for Chef Mickey's, that is how popular it is.

So, you do not have to have a reservation to get in, but if they are full it really is the only way to get in. If they can do something to get you a reservation, they surely will try. Again, you may have a little bit of a wait, but they may be able to get you in, you can also call for reservations from any hotel phone to see if there are any other openings.

Hope this helps!

You probably won't be seated for a walk in unless someone has cancelled last minute, and that's unlikely for breakfast. You might have some luck by calling into the dining reservations number every few days until your trip to see if someone cancelled. Sometimes a ressie opens up. If you don't have any luck with that, maybe you could try a different restaurant...maybe one that doesn't take reservations.

For Disney a month is pretty short notice to call for reservations. They start taking reservations at 180 days and many of the more popular places are booked shortly after. Some of them book the first day reservations are released.

If you are going to Disney at all you have to make reservations for any of their special dining, regardless of where you are staying. You can try to see if someone cancels, but the chances of that are slim. Chef Mickey's takes reservations for all meals because it is a character meal, not the same as the regular restaurant. Chef Mickey's takes reservations up to 180 days in advance, and with it being one of the most popular because it has Mickey and the rest of the Fab 5 (Mickey, Goofy, Donald, Minnie, Pluto) you have to use those 180 days. I will be there over Easter and the reservations were snapped up immediately for Chef Mickey's.

Disney is all about accomodations, thus the 180 days rule. If you check at the front desk of the restaurant before when you want to get in you MAY be able to, but I would be there very early, like right when they open for seating. Don't try it at 9AM, they will be PACKED.

Hope this helps. I would try calling in advance to get into a different character breakfast. The Polynessian and Grand Floridian both host them, and they will be easy to get to from the Contemporary via the monorail. Check out the Disney website for complete details. Also, check out the disboards. You can get a ton of info on going to Disney from there, including trip reports, restaurant reviews, resort reviews, tips for avoiding crowds and much more.

Have a great trip!

Chef Mickey Reservations

Walk in are allowed, but they rarely become available. Chef Mickeys is more popular for breakfast than dinner.

Disney does accommodate people, but there is a fire ordinance and everyone can not be every where at the same time. We plan our meals 180 days before our trip, this is our third time to try for dinning with the princesses at the Castle for Dreams Come True Meal, and this is the first year we got a meal.

Disney World is the most popular vacation site in the World, they have to have rules are we would all be miserable.

Chef Mickey is one of the most popular character meals in all of Walt Disney World so it does fill.

Ask at the hotel concierge desk when you check in and I'm sure that they will see if a reservation is possible.

Your best shot at a walk-up is to be there when they first open. It is pretty early and that is when their tends to be "no-shows".

The Food & Fun Center at the Contemporary does have a very limited breakfast menu.

You should always try to book early. I wouldn't try to walk in. Also try the Boma Lounge for dinner (Animal Kingdom Lodge). Just made reservations last weekend for 2 weeks from now. Earliest dinner opening was 9:30pm. Try Chef Mickey for dinner. The prime rib I had there was excellent.

The table service restaurants are VERY popular and take reservations up to 180 days in advance. You can TRY to just walk in, hoping somebody canceled - but don't hold your breath! (Although, we actually got into Cinderella's Royal Table a couple of years ago when somebody canceled, so it does happen....) I book our Disney vacations WELL in advance, and as soon as that 180 day mark hits, I'm on the phone with Disney Dining!

do no longer panic. in case you may no longer get reservations purely be waiting for slightly a wait in case you prefer to dine at height cases. in case you may, attempt to get in for the duration of the off cases -- have an early or late dinner, consume brunch and a late lunch. on the lodges the waits are frequently shorter than those in the park. do no longer ignore those eating places or those on the Board stroll.
