People who study History say that the major causes of war usually has to do with Religion. That is a lie that has perpetuated for as long as civilization has been about. The reason everything in the world is as screwed up as it is is the same as it has always been-----GREED, pure and simple. Straight to the point, those in power are greedy. Whomever came up with that quote Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely was right.

Because, like it or not, the steady flow of crude oil at fair market prices is the life blood of modern society. America led the world with the industrial revolution, we led the world with the information age and the rest of the world is now just starting to catch up. For instance, in China, due primarily to the era of free trade with America, has finally begun to experience the benefits of capitalism. Hundreds of millions of Chinese citizens are only now purchasing their first automobiles, starting their own businesses etc. The same is true for India and countries formerly behind the Soviet "Iron Curtain".
This is creating the kind of demand in these countries that we had a hundred years ago. The price of crude oil is rising. While it creates unwanted pressure on our wallets at the gas pumps it is also fast-tracking much new energy technology which, you guessed it, will lead to the a new "alternative energy revolution" and you can bet it will be led by the good old USA.
Energy resourses are just as vitally important and worth fighting for as food or water. If you do not have enough of it, your quality of life (if life itself) will be destroyed. When you cut through all the hype and mis-information, you see that if there is one country who has been in a postion to take over the world without firing a shot, it is the USA. We could have done it but we chose not to. Not only that, but we helped all of our former enemies rebuild and have self-determination.

Oil is the lifeblood of our society and every other advanced nation on earth. Without oil as a fuel, many homes which rely on it to provide heat and electricity will go cold and dark. All transportation will cease, yes, even your "green" hybrid vehicles cannot operate without oil. Farmers can no longer harvest food, because they too rely on oil and all industry will stop because of the need for fossil fuels as an ingredient in many of their products.
Its easy to then say, well what about solar, wind, and hydrogen power? Think about it. Indistry will do whatever it can to save money and solar and wind power is virtually free excpet for the initial implementation and routine maintenance. Why then wouldn't they opt for that alternative energy? Because it simply is not efficient, effective, reliable - It just doesn't work. Hydrogen and nuclear power is dangerous and is far to expensive to even come close to being cost effective and the average consumer will not be willing to endure the inflation that will result.

its what important now...not later. The oil company's and the stockholders that are making tons of money of these oil rigs don't care about the future they just care about making as much money for themselves and their family as possible.
Sort of like the Robber Barons in the 1800s (in fact the Kennedy's were one of the main families that made money and power off of the desception and hard ships of other ppl) it's always been like this hun...how do you think ppl get rich...off the labor and hardships of other ppl. It's just the way the world turns....so are you going to be a giver, taker or neck breaker? If you're a giver you'll be poor and will be feed off the takers, if you a taker you'll be scrapping by but able to live if you're a neck breaker you feed off everyone the givers and takers and don't care of the consquenses...but you'll be wealthy.

oil makes money. money makes greed. greed takes lives. our lives need oil.
it's not running out anytime soon though, that's just apocrypha spread by the oil companies to raise the price of oil. to some people, enough money is worth more than human life. it's sad, but it's the way of the world.
take care

Because most human beings live for today and let tomorrow worry about itself.
Unlike cockroaches which are infinitely more intelligent and suitable for inheriting the earth after humans kill themselves off.
