Does he/she only work in software programming?
Is there any other thing will a programmer do in a company instead of software programming?

1 more question:
What is the difference of what they will do between the programmers who are self employed and programmers who work for companies?

Thankx.

The wiki topic from the rangers_86 is a good reference.

Programmers can also do associated tasks that are not always considered "programming" (writing code). Collecting end user requirements, interface design (conceptual), acceptance testing and reporting, workflow development, etc... are closely related but may not require writing any code.

Programmers can do a lot of jobs. A programmer will input internal memory data into your "Pen Drive" too and thats the reason it gets recognized. A programmer also programs a hard-disk to function properly. He programs how a CD-Rom should function and what it must do when a button is pressed.

Self employed programmer will have a package and develop programs over it. He gets copyrights or sells them to outsiders at the cost of his wish. He can prepare programs of his choice. Programmers working in companies should follow what programs the company orders him to do.
