You have no trouble with AVG,Norton on the other hand, has problems. All you have to do is read the blogs and forums to prove it.my daughters new vista had a load of problems with Norton and she got rid and loaded AVG,problem solved.I believe Norton are on top of the problem though.

Norton is probably the best complete security suite on the market. It includes an anti-virus program, but also a spy ware scanner, a firewall, and other security features. However, because it is so secure, it can slow the computer. It uses a lot of the computer's processing power to run the security.

AVG is a good anti-virus program. But that is all it is - antivirus. You also have to have a separate anti-spyware program and a separate firewall program. While Norton's anit-spyware runs all the time, most of the other free ones do not. You have to remember to run them yourself every few days.

Because there is not as much stuff running when you use AVG, the PC runs faster. But it is not as secure and you have to do more things manually.

So it is a trade off. If you have an older, slower PC, then AVG and having to manually scan for spyware may be the right solution. If you have a new, faster PC, then Norton may the better choice. You have to find the balance between speed and security that is right for your situation.

(Personally, I use McAfee - a Norton like suite - on my "business" computers. But run AVG with Spybot Seek&Destroy on my "personal" computer.)

This is the first question I have ever answered.. but I absolutely had to because AVG blows Norton away.. Norton got on every last nerve I had. It has to ask you before it does anything. I just want the program to protect my computer and leave me alone! AVG is great! I can't believe it is free.

In a recent test by one of the mainstream computer magazines, AVG won by a country mile, detecting and removing more viruses than any of the pay virus software by a clear margin.

I use it because it's free but from what I've seen of Norton (pre-installed on machines), it is a good piece of kit.

I think AVG is better. It is free, it does not take up as much memory on your pc, and I have not received a virus since I have been using it. I refuse to pay for Anti-Virus too! Freeware is great!!!

I used to use AVG but found that AVAST was much better. I found with AVG some trojans found thier way in but everything much more secure with AVG.
