Great question! Prudence is hypothetical; its motto is, Honesty when it is the best policy. But the moral law in our hearts is unconditional and absolute. And an action is good not because it has good results or it is wise but because it is done in obedience to this inner sense of duty, this moral law that does not come from our own personal experience but legislates imperiously and a priori for all our behaviour, past, present and future. The only thing unqualified good is this world is a good will - the will to follow the moral law, regardless of profit or loss for ourselves.

Never mind your happiness; do your duty. Morality is not properly the doctrine of how we make ourselves happy, but how we male ourselves worthy of happiness. Let us seek the happiness in others; but for ourselves, perfection - whether it brings us happiness or pain. To achieve perfection in yourself and happiness in others. So act as to treat humanity, whether in your own self or in that of another, in every case as an end, never only as a means.

Thanks for asking. Have a wonderful day my good friend!

I could tell you "Honesty is the best policy" but that would be a lie.

Wait, that's the truth. Oh crap!!!

Out! Out Damned policy!!

Oh fine. Take your straight answer you sanctimonious snob...

Ahem....

Morality is just a collection of policies, laid down with the objective of group success.

There is no 'Moral objective in itself' because the Moral objective IS group success.

Now I'm not sure Honesty is the BEST policy, but it's a damn good one, 'cause I can't very well watch you back if you're lying about where it's pointed.

Honesty is best in everything. I'd say it's a moral objective in itself. If you're not honest now, it will get found out. It will affect you in some way for the worse! Just stay honest.

Its the policy with the least overhead that induces the least errors.

Its less local cost for you, and in general tends to have good local and good global profit for the society in which you live.

it should not be confusing, either we have it or not.

these two words i believe are the same, i mean an honest person does have moral. cause without moral we can not be honest.

and i believe most of us do say little white lies here and there.

Actually, its both, but the statement is to the policy.

That is, if you don't like, you don't have have to remember your lies and that is less likely to get you into trouble in the future.

The moral side of it is harder to argue coherently about...
