I think it took over our brains. Most everything seems to depend on computers today. Yesterday my mother was trying to pay taxes and calling on the phone getting a run around and the "Button Dance". I finally took her bill and charge card and paid the Taxes in less than 5 minutes using her Dial-Up (And that was slow).
Also, it does take away our freedom. You have heard; "The walls have ears", well "The Internet has eyes".

well most things rely on computers nowadays but we can always turn it off if we want but yes if you are a business then basically you have to make a website to keep in competition with all of the other businesses..and more and more people are starting to do online jobs from the comfort of there home like being an online teacher or someone who takes surveys.
and then most school children's homework and coursework also requires an element of the internet for research
and also internet banking which i don't do just in case and online shopping so yes basically it is taking over and if it keeps going because the industry is driving it this way then we will have no choice because they will stop you being able to go to a normal bank or mailing a letter because you will have to do it online or something

but it has already taken lots over already

What did you have in mind when you say "taking over"?

For instance, while there are plenty of internet sources of information and sites selling products, I don't expect to see the internet "take over" eating, or even cooking.
These are activities which require real world actions.
I don't expect to see the internet "take over" sports - while there are certainly fantasy sports groups, and lots of sports news web sites, etc. most people still prefer to attend games.
While there are medical web sites, I know that _I_ still prefer to meet, in person, with a live doctor, than expect to get medical advice from an unknown person on the internet. And I prefer to obtain my medicines from a local pharmacist rather than from some web site where I don't know the safety record.

I doubt that the internet is going to "take over" transportation - people still need to get from point a to point b, regardless of internet telephones, internet cameras, etc.

I believe most people now, and in the foreseeable future, will prefer taking a real vacation, in person, over visiting a place via the internet.

So in my opinion, no, the internet isn't taking over _everything_.

There are certainly areas in which people are using the internet more and more. However, I suspect the total number of people using the internet in a year is still a pretty small percentage of the number of people on the planet.

The internet is not managed by just one, two, or even dozens of entities/companies/goverments. The internet is a decentralized form of communication, in which more people than ever can have access to. The world wide web as we know it is reliant on it to function. How the internet works is many servers accross the world take requests and process them and send the data to the requested computer, such as a web address or email account.

Online search is now a multi-billion dollar industry, with Google alone grossing over $3.5 billion in profits last year. It's no wonder why so many newcomers are hopping on the search bandwagon, hoping to become the next Google. You can find everything you want there :)

We have control over what we allow into our lives. If we let it, the internet takes over. We know where that little X is in the upper corner and can click it at any time.

No. Its popularity has already peaked. If you follow the market of domain name sales you will see that the values of .coms are falling as more and more people become bored with the internet and move on to other things such as the nintendo weii or going out and getting drunk.

it definitely plays a bigger part in everything these days. Strange how you almost never mail in bills anymore... it's all online.
