In theory, a republican democracy gives power to the people, allowing them to choose their destiny and what is best for the majority. Also (in theory) it has to be alternation of power, with elections happening periodically, usually every 4 or 6 years. Contrary to other types of government, as theocracy, monarchy, authoritarianism; in a republic, people choose their officials in government. There is also a balance of power with three branches of government: legislative branch, judicial branch and the executive, being the executive, with the president, the main branch of government.

This of course is only in the books, since the vast majority of countries that call themselves republic, act more as something else. Many democratic republic are plaged by corruption and abuse, which by definition can not occur in this type of government. In some countries defined as republic there is either no elections or the ones that happen are fixed.

If its possible to really establish a democratic republic, the majority of the people should be living in a fair situation with their rights as citizens respected, with freedom of speech, religion and lifestile.

You cannot have a "republican democracy" style of government. They are separate systems. We were established as a constitutional republic. The Democrats have labored to change us to a democratic/socialistic/communistic government since, at least, FDR.

The main benefit is that majority rules while taking into account the rights of the minority.

True democracy does not do that.
