I feel a sense of liberation in the mind when I consider what you have put as a question, but this sense is not without its due reservation. This could signifies something strong and fixed in the mind that would tie the direction of all efforts and all choices to one focal point of some deeply desired destination. That if it is as purpose in the mind, it is regardless of the variations of paths alone the way.

A stone when thrown into a river find its shortest way to the bottom - Hermann Hesse

A stone is a dead weight that sinks against water to bottom. And along its way, it needs not know the intricacies the rapids, whims of the waves and that of eddies. It would do just what nature intends it to do. But human purposes can be weak, as they can also be strong, but they are always alive; they could change and alter. Hi Rena:

I definitely agree with your preposition. Whatever bundles of threads it maybe there will always one thread that will lead you the way. This holds true to one's life as we seek our path or journey to a good life. It is a semblance to a maze that if you seek the right direction you will indeed find its way out. Patience is a virtue.

Interesting question. Have a great day!

Not completely. Sometimes such a thread can be a diversion from one's defined path and can potentially lead to an unfavorable outcome whereas the thread that would lead one to his or her destination of choice may be hidden from plain sight. Be wary of what is laid out before you.
