Do you know how many programs there are? Do you believe that we need more?

cite sources. I only ask because in Upstate NY we have more layers of government and more programs that any other State in the country. We also have some of the highest poverty rates, worst test scores, and few jobs. The Liberals here blame Bush, but this has been going on for decades (so their argument is flat out false, and Federal spending has INCREASED under Bush). How can we create jobs, lower taxes, and increase government programs because the math does do add up.

Queen? Can you name some??? Why would you want more? Because I have to pay for it?

How is this not a legit question? Maybe the Left should step up and prove that all their programs work. I worked in Erie County Social Services, and the place is blatantly loaded with patronage, way over staffed, and everyone is sitting around waiting for their pension.

Hey, Fern: Social Security returns less on our investment than a savings account. You are pathetic for believing these Liberal who only care about your vote.
I am all for helping the poor and sick. I am opposed to a government program that supplies jobs for votes, and spends 5 times what it produces. I cannot understand how liberals can even complain. The amount of assistance is staggering, and Bush has INCREASED funding for most social programs. You people aren't going to be happy until you put my business under and jail me for an inability to pay my taxes.

The Queen has given you the typical response.... uneducated and without any knowledge with regards to the issue. New York is a Blue State and has been for years. They believe in being a "Nanny" state. They believe the government should be responsible to cure all ills. They believe that by throwing more money at the issue that it will solve the problem. While programs to "fix" or address certain issue do require funding the problem comes when there is no accountability or responsibility connected with the management and use of these programs. Efficiency is the key and unfortunately, when heavily funded programs are inefficient you need only look at those that run or regulate those programs. Mostly run by liberals who are so politically correct that all can partake as long as possible without qualifying or taking any steps of responsibility to "ween" off of the program.

The Department of Homeland Security...

Edit:
My tongue-in-cheek answer got the response I thought it would. Which is...no response. This is a testament to the honesty of people with your political leanings.

If you "thumbs up", you tell everyone you are simply a partisan liar. DHS is HIGHLY inefficient. It is perhaps the biggest boondoggle of all time in terms of bang for the buck. It is allowing a small town police force like Spartanburg, S.C., to purchase highly fortified MILITARY personnel carriers....to combat...terrorism?

If you "thumbs down", you honestly admit, a probable incapability on your part, what EVERYONE already knows. DHS IS A BUSH program which I chose because it is rather new and easy to trace it's costs and creation, AND is like all government programs in that it costs a lot of money. Don't be shocked, but this is NOT a great revelation on your part. You weren't blessed "with a higher knowledge" that has escaped us mortals before or since your arrival amongst us.

The FACT is that there are no efficient Government programs. The REASON is that Government programs weren't DESIGNED TO BE efficient. They are designed to perform a service and fill a need. Period. It would be great if they did all they promised and came in in the black. They DON'T do all they promise and they DON'T come in under budget. WHOOP-DEE-DO.
The programs that the RIGHT loves and approves....DON'T!
The programs that the LEFT loves and approves.....DON'T!

Government programs more often than not serve to keep Americans dependent upon the government, none have seen cuts under Bush, most have seen significant budget increases. No government program is efficient and few are effective. The key to American and individual success is personal responsibility, hard work and dedication. We should be willing to lend a helping hand to get people headed in the right direction but government should NEVER be a way of life.

Social Security has brought many elderly people out of poverty, FEMA_ a very effective agency before George Bush appointed a crony. Head Start, an effective program for children. Government can do more for the greater nunmber than any private institution on the face of the Earth. The perception that only the "free market" system can provide adequate programs (voluntarily) and admininster them is flawed. You can't preach "compassionate conservatism" and promote an "ownership society" by telling the uneducated, the poor, the destitute, the sick, unemployed etc. that they're on their "OWN". Capitalism in its purest form only benifits a small number and does very little for the greater number of our most valuable resource...OUR PEOPLE!!! Have a good day...
