I would think this day an age we should be going off the popular vote.

But if we still use the electoral vote because it is in the constitution... Well then I think we need to make the number of electoral votes the same for all states. Why does California, Texas, Floria, & New York have more pull than Wisconsin, Minnesota, Dakota's, etc?

OK... How about instead of giving all of the votes for the state to the winner of the state... What about giving a percentage of the votes?

The electoral votes are proportioned to a state's population so that individuals in a more populous state won't have less influence on the election than individuals in a smaller state. The electoral college was first put into place because this nation's founders didn't think the average citizen was smart enough to pick a president. Now, the electoral college votes based on their state's popular vote; but that allows a candidate to lose the popular vote and still get enough electoral college votes like Bush did over Gore in 2000 by winning the larger states. The electoral college is just used because of tradition; there should be a constitutional amendment that changes the presidential election to a popular vote. Some states are actually thinking about proportioning the electoral votes to the popular votes in their state instead of giving all of the votes to the winner. A popular vote would still be best.

California already complains that its votes count less than that of Wyoming, as there are 36 million in CA with 55 electoral votes and about 400 K in WY with 3 electoral votes. Your solution would make it worse.

The Electoral College and its distribution is spelled out in the Constitution. Only an Amendment can change that, which needs 38 states to vote for it. I can guarantee that at least 13 small states are not dumb enough to give more power to California.

Becuase small states would be totaly left out of the election process, the same reason it was started for that is so the Presidental canidates have to go to the entire country vs PA NY AND CA.
