No matter what platform you're using, the software volume control is associated with headphones, speakers, and (if applicable) the internal speaker. If you don't want sound coming from the internal speaker on your computer, you should have a way of disconnecting it from the motherboard or sound card.

Hi. One affects the other. If the speakers are powered they should have adjustable volume. Set the level for the headphones then turn the speakers up or down. Headphones with separate volume controls are not expensive.

Open up your "volume control" and there you wll see separate adjustments for mic and for speakers ...
