My uncle is in town and he loves treasure hunting. Not the kind with treasure maps and metal detectors. The kind that is rumored to exist, with the old tales about history burying it. He is from texas and they have a lot of that in that area.

Does anyone know of any places around the MD and VA aread that has stories or something interesting? Besides Gettysburg, he thinks its too commercialized.

He says he remembers a story about the civil war and what not but I wasn't sure. Any ideas? links?

I bet he is referring to the "Confederate Gold." In April of 1865, the city of Petersburg fell and Richmond was evacuated. The Confederate government loaded a train up with gold and other valuables and rolled down to Danville, VA. From there, who knows where it went! (Which is why it is a mystery.)

Good luck and have fun!

What a coincedence! I live in VA and know Civil war battle sights.
-the battle of Rio Hill.
-the battle of Stanardsville (both are in Greene county)
-The Appomattix Court House (where General Lee signed a peace treaty to end the war)

that's all I know of, sorry it's not a lot. Hope this helps and good luck with the Treasure hunt!!
