I was a teenager in the 80s. My Mom did volunteer work for an AIDS research foundation in our area. She was a "buddy" to many a sick man, offering comfort, a loving mother's hand (you'd be surprised how many people found themselves completely abandoned by their supposed "loving and supportive" families once they found out they were sick and/or gay), transportation to and from doctor's appointments and other errands, etc. I helped her out cooking for the guys, washing clothes and giving them haircuts when they needed it (ignorant hair salon owners didn't want them in their shops) and just being a younger voice of reason by trying to educate the populous about the disease (well, what we knew of it at the time anyway).

I thought I had a clear memory of those days. After reading your piece, I realized just how much of the desparation, fear, urgency and sorrow had quietly slipped from my mind.

Thank you for bringing that time in history back to the front of my mind. The men I watched die back then were wonderful, beautiful people and they deserve to be remembered.

This reminds me of a book I just recently read called 'The book of Joe' I'm only 18 and I havn't actually experienced these events in my days but understand them and know that they still exist. I think it's a great piece that you wrote and very real. I loved it.

Well you express your point well, and I do feel your emotion and inner turmoil, but if i may be frank about the writing itself, it's bleak to a point of maddness, totally unstructured, now I dont know if that was deliberatly done or not, but it doesn't read like that, the flow is very off putting, the imagery is shocking with is a fantastic aspect of the piece, grammar wouldn't be great though.
