Woodson has been at the top of the Heisman talk for a couple of weeks now. Then he gets on national TV and has a bad game. Did that blow his chances? Is it too early to say yet? Seems to me that if the race is close at the end of the season, having a big game on TV usually wins it. Of course if you play at USC and are even marginally good, they will give it to you. History has proven that countless times.

Fish - good call-out of Charles Woodson! (over Peyton Manning? Don't make me laugh!)

Why does everyone vote for the senior Qb/Rb of a top ten team for the heisman? Right now, the leading candidates are Darren McFadden, Tim Tebow, and Woodson. No one has even considered Texas Tech WR Michael Crabtree as the Heisman winner (which supposedly goes to the best player in the country).

Stats

REC --YDS--AVG--LNG--TD
-70 ---1074--15.65----75 ---17

Yes, I know that he plays in a system offense, but these numbers are astounding, and he is just a Freshman! People will think that these numbers are misleading because Tech runs a pass heavy offense, but most of the heisman contenders are in a sort of system.

McFadden is on a team that runs the ball alot, which usually gives him great numbers (even though he splits time w/ Felix Jones)

Tim Tebow is in a system that allows him to run. He usually runs the ball more than his running-backs.

Woodson is not in a system, but his bad outing against SC will probably lower his status

All in all, these other Heisman hopefuls are great players that will have successful NFL careers, but nobodies numbers are even close to Crabtrees. This kid is on track to break Jerry Rice's Single season recieving TD record, which is 27.

Yeah he pretty much screwed up his chances. He had two fumbles returned for touchdowns and really played consistently average the whole night. On top of that, I think we'll see later on in the season that South Carolina's defense is not that strong. So put together he had a bad night and struggled against a mediocre defense and that has 2nd Team All SEC written all over it.

I agree with you somewhat about USC. If John David Booty wins it this year that will be the biggest joke of a Heisman winner since Charles Woodson.

Absolutely.

For a player at a school not heavily supported by media bias (that means ND, USC, Michigan primarily), one slip on a nationally televised game and you are done.

Manning got screwed out of the Trophy due to one bad game against a much better UF team and lost it to defensive back!
(where are all those voters who were shouting "defensive guys should get the same respect"? Not a single vote for a defensive player since).

If Manning and his unbelievable year couldn't win it at a bigger football school like UT, Woodson is most certainly done.

Booty probably wins since he plays for USC, and just like Vince Young had the award stolen from him by a Trojan, Booty will probably get the call this year.

Kentucky has two tough games back to back. They play Florida then LSU. It all depends how he plays. If it's a blow out then it'll be over for him, but if he keeps it close then he still might have a chance.

McFadden is a stud and they are the only two that stand out in my mind that I would even consider for the Heisman. Although the teams they play on are not great, but it's the individual effort that they put into the teams that should be looked at.

if the darlings of the East Coast media powers like you, then one bad game won't destroy your chances. To win at QB you must play in the Big Ten, Pac 10, SEC, or Notre Dame. Woodson fits that bill, now his team is exposed, not nearly as good as their ranking. That is the prime hurdle Woodson will have to leap.

Darren McFadden should win the Heisman. He will shatter all Arkansas rushing records this year, and he is only a junior. He is by far the best athlete in NCAA football. Just watch him run if you get a chance.

No i dont think so. He still has 18 TDs and only 2 ints. That's crazy. Darren McFadden is not out of the race just b/c his team lost 2 gms. So if McFadden is not out of it w/ 2 loss, then Andre Woodson def is NOT out of it.
