I don't know if the baby could be taken away but I can tell you that it should be. She's already neglecting the baby and it isn't even born yet. I understand that be anorexic or bulimic is a mental illness and she may not be able to quit on her own but she needs help now. She's putting that unborn child in danger. She could end up losing it before she's even due because of the baby is not getting the proper nutrients to be healthy. She needs to start taking care of herself. If she doesn't want the baby, she should really consider adoption. My best friend's parents adopted a little girl (and gave her the best life they could) who's mother did drugs while she was pregnant with her and she ended up being malnutritioned. She is now 18 years old and is developmentally changed. That baby deserves a chance at a good life.

For some women it's a coping mechanism, if the woman's being abused they may see smoking / drinking etc as their only relief. I'm not saying it's right and I do get very upset when I see mothers just being ignorant and smoking but you can't judge all women with the same standards. If someone has been abused throughout their life and turns to drugs to escape, she needs help and support, not judging. The sad fact is though that many women like this don't feel able to turn to people for help because they're afraid of being judged or having their baby taken away.

Thats tough. A woman in that position has a mental problem, for whatever reason she feels insignificant and a need to be thin. First of all, she needs to be monitored constantly because a woman with anorexia or bulimia will be devastated by the weight gain of pregnancy. Although I agree that the danger she is causing, if she is not monitored can be just as harmful as a drug user, I'm not so sure the baby needs to be taken away. Just because a woman has an eating disorder, it does not mean she will neglect her baby of food. A drug user on the other hand, depending on the intensity and type of drug addiction certainly can and will continue to do harm to her child after his/her birth.

No, I don't think the baby should be taken away. We don't take babies from women who are obese, or women who drink until they become a danger to the child and themselves.
Someone with serious anorexia or bulemia would probably have a hard time carrying a child to full term to begin with, but I would certainly advocate that someone keep an eye on her and monitor her progress during and after the pregnancy. With proper help and guidance, she can hopefully recover from the illness. ... and yes, where's the father...

well shes putting her baby in a lot of danger, yes but being on drugs and being anorexic are very different, anorexia is more of a mental illness and drugs are like and addiction, so i think that this woman needs to get some help, but i don't think the baby will be taken away at birth.

No the woman needs to be treated while she is pregnant. This is something that is a hormonal imbalance that makes these people believe they are fat.. ect. Its not their fault and its not like they want to be this way. Their not going on the streets looking for drugs. These people are really ill and need help during and after pregnancy. Although I think that they need to have a close support group and good teaching of nutrition for their child's sake.

Sometimes women with eating disorders temporarily stop during pregnancy because a mothering instinct takes over. However the disorder can continue after birth, but the mother wouldn't be an imminent threat to her baby. And if she was anorexic she probably wouldn't be able to get pregnant in the first place.

Fortunately, the body is an awesome thing. Her body will suffer while making sure the baby gets whatever nutrition is taken in. But I don't think she should get her child taken away unless she doesn't feed it. She should be provided with a loving, supportive environment where she can get treatment and help so both she and her baby are healthy.

I dont think they can take her baby away for that. But obviously she doesnt care very much about the health of her child, so really she should be giving it to someone who does.

if the baby even survives! the mother would need more of mental counseling than rehab. there is a difference, but shes not doing illegal drugs.
