Dry ice is not the best solution. You need to keep adding water to cause the fog and it won't go very far from the container. Maybe just a few inches to a foot at the most.
They make fog machines that constantly produce the fog and blow it around. Don't know where you'd get one but a good place to start would be a rental center or a party supply place.

If you want the low floating effect of fog , check with a lighting ,and stage equipment shop / rental , they have dry ice machines that will blow the low lying coverage you want , they will tell you how much you need as well to do what you are wanting to do ..those cheap fog machines others talk about will fog up the whole place
If you plan to hire a band for this wedding , ask the band where to find one or if they have one many bands out there have the dry ice machines .....

No offense to you or others who answer; you'd be better off renting a FOG machine.
Dry ice needs tending for one thing. I've used it in theater and have to keep it at just a right height in some water. Messy stuff eventually; and it needs some level of circulation for the effect you want.
A fogger needs some minor monitoring as well; but is compact/self contained; uses a fogging solution added to some water; as well as a fan; and often a tube that can be used to direct the flow. It might not strictly CLING to the floor level; given the agitation from traffic; but it certainly can be effective; and regulated as to amount; as well as direction.
One down side might be that the fog could b irritating to some guests.

It depends on the size of the room but If you were doing a room about 100' X 100' I think I would have four five gallon buckets of extremely hot water and at least a five pound block of dry ice in each bucket.
Place the buckets strategically around where you want the cloud and you should be good to go. I suggest you do not have any fans running because moving air would ruin your effect.

I agree with "Insensitively Honest" on this. If they're are dry ice machines definately look into this. Doing it manually would require you to assign a person to the task of maintaining the ice, for it melts quickly. You will see a person going around with oven mitts on dropping ice in buckets? You can always buy a couple of blocks of dry ice and experiment to see if this would work for your event. Try it in a similar size room, etc...

Party rental stores carry the machines for this. be very careful when using if you have small children running around. You need to remember that the fog is a non-oxygen product.
